All doors must be securely latched in the closed position
Doors and door apertures must have blunted edges
Door handles and controls must be accessible from the adjacent seat
All aperture covers (boot bonnet etc) must be capable of being surely latched when closed.
A latch must be able to withstand a force of 30kg when the door is in the fully latched position (and intermediate position if fitted)
VOSA have this to say if the side door is hinged at the top or rear of the door (ie Ford GT40)
“The door is fitted with a device which automatically closes it to at least the intermediate closed position if unlatched when the vehicle is moving forward, or
provided with a safety bolt to prevent the door being unlatched accidentally.
Where a safety bolt is fitted to a top or rear hinged door, check its security and operation
and that it is fitted with an audible warning device which activates when the vehicle is driven without the bolt in the secured (locked) position.”
