NICE TO SEE SOME PROGRESS ...The car has some potential ..there are aspects of it I really like and aspects that I'm not so keen on , but generally , its good to see another variation on the S*mmio theme ...
round wheel arches ....snigger , chortle ... MG did get it just right on their MGA's didn't they ? chuckle , lol etc.
I think getting a body to Stoneleigh that would be worthy of representing your kit is going to be nigh on impossible .....but Chris and Dan can pull it off if anyone can ...
We are planning on taking customer car number 1 to Castle Combe , so it will be interesting to see the two cars in close proximity ...

Progressing nicely
Body looks complete.
The bonnet had to be re-worked after I removed the scoop
If all goes to plan we'll collect the first body next week so it will soon be time to dig out the donor (that's been parked in the yard for over a year) and start the first conversion.

The original buck is now surplus to requirement and although it has taken a beating during the moulding process but is still salvageable so will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Not much has happened at SAMMIO HQ.
The SAMMIO ALPHA buck has had the "rattle can" treatment and has been useful in making a hard half tonneau cover.
The finished cover will be available as an extra and can have a hinge through the centre like to BMW powered SAMMIO so it can be folded, enabling it to be stowed in the passenger's foot well when not in use.
As I intend to pull a SAMMIO behind my camper van I am going to make another half tonneau for the driver side.
Not for resale but when the two are fitted together they should add a little extra security when leaving the car unattended and also help keep out a lot of the bad weather.

Micky1Mo - Nice work on the half cover.
I see an aero hump has arrived, will that hinge to allow the boot to open?
Good luck, Paul.

The hump was just lying around so I tried it. To get it working with the boot lid I moved the hinges to the near side,
Also finished the other hard cockpit cover.
With the pair fitted (and a strap around the whole lot) I was able to leave the car outside over the weekend.

Micky1Mo – The cockpit cover looks good, especially the bit around the steering wheel.
But the modified side opening boot lid with the aero hump attached looks absolutely amazing.
Good luck, Paul.

Wouldn't it benefit from being hinged on the hump side though? That way you'd have less mass to lift and support

Tried that first but the shape/curve of the boot means the front edge of hump drags along the paint work on initial opening.
Hinges mounted on the other side means the hump lifts clear and as it's hollow there no real weight to it so I went for that idea. .

This little car has never handled well and I just thought it was the rear spring or shocks so I would sort it out at some point.
I also thought the body was not central as the near side wheel was well inside the arch unlike the offside wheel, in fact, I had to use 20mm spacer to get it to look right.
Now that I'v fitted larger wheels and tyres (15x215x55) have I found the problem.
Larger MG minilite wheels fitted.
Near side view of wheel inner wheel arch.
Off side view of wheel inner wheel arch.
Turn out this car has a "short" drive shaft fitted to the near side and a "long" drive shaft fitted to the off side.
Firstly, I did'nt know there was a difference in drive shaft lengths and secondly,as far as I'm aware both drive shafts should be the same length .
This miss-match of drive shafts sets the rear suspension drop-links at different angles which would have cause the handling issue, oops!!
0'well you learn something different every day.

Early cars have short drives, later Spits have longer ones.
None ever left the factory with one of each ? ? : )

Midway through the Spitfire MK IV production they were changed to the inch longer axles.
