Talking At Last - Progress!!

All,

Went for a little visit to Marlin today to see the progress oh our car, as it should be back with us very soon, yay.

It was great just to see the car again with the engine in on it new mounts and lots of pipes all connected up, was hoping to hear it running, but that will happen tomorrow so say, so should be good.

The main reason for the visit was to see what they had done and what jobs were left for us, and to check that the rear of the car was complete i.e. rear hubs and carriers, exhaust which is very nice, and various other bits and pieces.

Below ive attached a link to a few pics, of the car at its current state, it will be on wheels with the body on by end of next week.

Once we start the engine ill try and get a little video just to tease some of you out there,

Click on the link below and flick through images;

Cheers Jon

They are standard Civic Type R rear disks, with the wilwood 4pots, if you like them, you with fall in love with the front.

The Wilwood 4 pots are able to use a handbrake as it shows in a few pictures, they are a radial mount.

If you talk to Mark at Marlin im sure he can help out in some way.

just been looking through your pitures - car looks amazing! you have made some really nice mods-- just one question is that front roll-bar a marlin item or did you custom fit it? - o and the roll cage additions?

Thanks, much appreciated, the front anti roll-bar is a malrin item, the main mods to our car are at the rear, with a few on the front. Once our car has been tested then we will release pictures of mods, (but we like to test tem first, dont want to look silly).

If you speak to Marlin either Mark or Simon on the tech help line, then mention JNRacing as out car is still there so you can cross reference the picture to our car at there end.

Jon, your engine looks to be at a very different angle to stock, with it seemingly canted forward to help you get the driveshafts straight.

You're not worried about oil return from the head and sump related problems?

The Standard K20 in the Type R in laid back so to speak as in the sump is flat, you can tilt the K20 upto 20 degrees without any major problems. There was a lot of talk to a race engine design company that were going to tune the orriginal b16 engine, and once they looked into it there is no problem as yet with tilting the K20.

It's funny. It's the same as the T series Rover engine in many ways. You can tilt and as long as the sump is level all is ok. Marlin did this to mine.

We were looking at using the rover 2L turbo engine but we found the honda K20 is easyer to get bits for and there a lot of companies out there that develop them.

Are your hubs not adjustabel (toe) without removing the rear toe lonk arm?

they look like they are!

ps how hard can it be for the camber arm to be modified to accept a normal and reverse thread so can be adjusted on the car if everyone know what I mean

Am I making any sense at all????

Ok im going to let the cat out the bag now, prob get told off by someone somewhere but hay, its the weekend and im bored, and with no car to play with its even harder to keep quite.

The hubs have a very expensive toe in/out adjuster, the problem with this is that, when you adjust the toe in/out, you also adjsut the camber caster angle as well, which is not good as normally you want to increase one and decrease the other.

A company local to me are goin to make new top arms, which will be able to fitted to the road Exi, if wishing to, it would mean that you would have to buy new rear hubs but it may be worth it if you like driving your car at the correct speeds on the track and roads, (cough).

Craig if you have time, it may be worth waiting to see what our car turns out like, as we may be able to sort something out with marlin and ourselves to then make it avaiable to customers.

Ive already said too much really but if you can wait it may be worth it. Our car will be finsihed by Stoneliegh 2008, and its first show will be Japfest 2008 at castle combe. So not too long to wait to see if they work well, if you choose to go down that route.
