Default tempered side glass-sanding to shape

I want to create my own kit car. I want to reshape the side window glass of a regular car which has tempered glass. I know the glass would probably crack apart if I tried to use a cutter on it. I have read that you can't cut or score tempered glass because it would shatter. I am wondering whether sanding it to the shape I want would work. I think the edges are sanded smooth from the factory. I am thinking of a belt sander to make a quick job of it. Any ideas?

Thanks

I'd also be very interested to know if it would work. If I had the time, money (and ability ) I'd make my own car, but I'm fortunate in already owning a great handling chassis that I am simply rebodying. The windows are arguably the biggest problem / compromise . I shall leave the w/screen in place, the B/C pillar window is from an A6, but finding a glass door window to fit will be impossible. I shall therefore be using the existing perspex windows and then cut / file them to shape. These dont pass SVA, but take them out and it shouldnt be a problem. Perspex does scratch easily , and craze in stressed areas , but apparently it's possible to remove the finer scratches using stuff normally available to caravaners (not tried it yet) .

Not ideal I know, but perspex windows can look OK
