very true and I've learnt this the hard way as i "assumed" a few parts were fine
I also blame Gary for having my body ready 3 weeks early and therefore not giving me enough time to get everything reconditioned! At least that's me excuse! Just kidding Gary!

He did that with mine, so I have had to sit and look at it in my back garden for the last few weeks, I am itching to try it on the chassis/frame

I've just changed the gearbox and speedo and come back in from a run to test it all out.
MUCH better!!
Although while the speedo needle moves up as i get faster and down as i get slower. I'm not at all convinced that there is any correlation between how fast I'm going and what the needle actually says!
I may have to send it off to Swansea to be calibrated in the not too distant future methinks!
But now that it is all back together i've been doing a few of the post-mot tidying up jobs and i've finally managed to get some pics.
Now that all of the main pieces are just about there, i can use the car without feeling embarrassed that I'll show anyone up and i can make replacement _better_ parts over time. Which is why i went for a Sammio in the first place!

And while I'm at it i've finally taken some engine bay pics as someone was asking about plumbing etc.
Up until now I've been embarrassed to post any pics of my engine bay as the engine tidy-up is next winters job. But i'm now at a point where i don't really care what others think! I know it's not pristine and needs a bit of TLC, but it's mine!
And before anyone mentions it. Yes the top rad pipe is quite near the alternator, but if you look closely you can spot the bracket i fabricated that is bolted to the alternator top bolt to make sure i don't get any unfortunate "wizzz arrrgghh sploosh" moments

Dave, you have yours on the road and will be enjoying it while we all faff with ours!
Good job mate, and it is no mean feat to build one anyway, and the fact you did it all yourself should make you proud. It looks great, so well done.
The interior and paint look lovely, and that is what most people will see anyway!
Roll on the summer !

As long as this weather holds, it's the first "offical" trip out tomorrow
I'm massively self consious that my paint job isn't up to the std of some of the garage queens likely to be there, but then again another thread did make me think that it just looks _lived in_ so as long as i don't tell people that it's just done, i think that it pulls off the "in need of a renovation" look quite well
I've purposefully not done anything to it over the past few weeks as i didn't want to tempt fate, but i did pick up a new thermostat from e-bay and i thought i'd quickly flush the rad and fit that yesterday as surely that couldn't go wrong!
But this is ME that we're talking about!
The new thermostat was simply rubbish! When compared to the old one the quality of the new one is dreadful, it didn't open properly and it didn't open until the engine was much warmer So it's been swapped back out again and the old one is working fine with the newly flushed system. ho humm.
Which is fine, BUT.....
When i was changing it, the bonnet fell shut and my bulge now has a small patch of crazy-paving courtesy of a screwdriver that was left on the top of the thermostat housing.
Just adds to the lived-in look that i was aiming for all along - honest -

Someone once told me that once you get a classic or kit car then you'll never be quite "finished" as there's always something to do.
Turns out they were right
I've now corrected my behind-dash wiring to add in the voltage stabiliser, so now my fuel and temp gauges are reading right! and i've also started adding in the wires for the map light and in the box of bits left over from my last project i've found an ideal toggle switch that i can use.
I've also managed to acquire the tripometer reset fly-lead, so i'll fit that in the dash some time soon. Although i've also picked up a Smiths volt gauge, so i may do an entirely new dash panel.... i haven't quite decided yet.
I've also shamelessly thieved an idea from Tony (ta matey) and added some more period detailing to the front end. Although my badge is different to Tony's as mine is fitted on the drivers side and his is on the passenger side. See! it's not a copy, it's just a "tribute"

And as an end to my build thread (which I've just re-read and got a bit nostalgic over!) as of 35mins ago I am no longer the owner of a Sammio Spyder
I hope I'll still be welcome in this part of the forum?

Your thread was great for me while I was planning, and then when I started to build. Thanks!
Good luck with the Lambo. I love them. It's a stunning shape that will give you so much pleasure.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I've no intention of sharing who it's been sold to or where it's gone, as that is up to the discretion of the new owner if they ever want to share.
The trailer on the other hand is a http://www.brianjames.co.uk/
