SVA ready?
Well nearly.
I just have a very few items on my list so the form and fee will be going off to the DVLA this week to book my SVA.
After four and a half years, I thought I'd never get there. It was Novemeber 2003 when I started to dismmatle the donor and it was Easter weekend 2004 that my son and I travelled to Exeter to pick up stage one of the kit.
Lots of photo's tonight on my Flickr site...........

But here are a few to wet your appitites..........
hapy building.............

Excellent! Well done!
One thing, does the bottom of the dash have SVA required radius? I think its 19mm?

Looking very nice, well done
I'd double check the rules on radius / extrusions on the lighter socket thingy. Also you may need to pad the centre of your wheel
Remember to take a diagram of the hand brake setup with you showing the spring compensator each side.

I know the feeling - I am going for the record....
Anyway it looks the dogs. I hope the SVA man appreciates your attention to detail!

Thanks for all the comments guys, keep them comming incase I have forgotten something.
In theory, the bottom edge of the dashboard can be 5mm radius so long as it is deformable with thumb pressure. My edging is a squashy type from Woolies so 'should' be OK.
But, I also bought a 2m length of door seal at Stoneliegh which has a nice 20mm radius. This will either be in the boot for fitting if the above fails or fitted during the sleepness night before the test!
Again, a dished steering wheel don't need a centre pad but the edge of the horn ring doesn't meet the radius requirements, so that'll get a bit of black vinyl stuck over, once the steering wheel is finally fixed.
I think the cigar lighter should be OK, but that might also be removed before the test.

Looks great Peter.
But it's the luck of the draw with examiners.
You could have the perfect car. He will find something wrong however you have done it. Have a bog standard car. And it will pass first fime. Depends on the day.
The way I looked at it, was expect a fail, come away with a list of things to pass next time.
If it passes first time, next you have the registration to look forward to! By that I mean if you can get different staff at the DVLa stating you can drive it to get inspected, other saying you need to put it on a trailer! Call centre or local inspector is the difference!

I got a letter today from VOSA at Swansea asking me to complete an "Amateur Built Declaration" (just two further questions about who built the car and a signature), photographic evidence of the build and certified copies (signed by applicant) of the receipts of the major parts purchased for the build.
I've completed the form and sent it back with 21 photos (minatures) and 24 receipts.
(Not sure why they couldn't have asked for all of this on the SVA1 form?)
Spoke to them on the phone today. Once checked at Swansea they send the application on to the test station to book the test date.

Yeah I had to send a pack full of invoices. I included:
Donor car
Main chassis bits
Suspension bits
seats
Pipes, coolers, fan, rad etc
Misc parts (there were a lot of those!!)
Along with the builders form signed to say I'd done most of the work. You get the invoices back at SVA time but I made copies of all of mine before sending. I can't remember if I sent the originals of the copies now though, I think it was the copies.

Oooo - I better collect mine together then. Most of them are lying around in various parts of the garage. I was trying not to collect them all together in case it scared me how much it had cost....

Yeah I was avoiding that too but then I needed to add up most of them up to figure out the agreed value of the car.

Not much progress while I'm waiting for a date for my SVA test. Every time I go in the garage, I find another little sharp edge to cover up. This is a little bit of wing piping stuck on to 'blunt' the front edge of the bonnet hinge.
Just in case, the whole steering wheel boss is now covered. (Looks quite nice?)
Now if've fitted my alloys and a 10mm spacer, my indicators were no longer less than 400mm from the edge of the car. I made up some new brackets. This time I used ali angle.
Beter than the first ones!
A few other bis and pieces on my Flickr site.
Not much left on my list now, just need the date

Yeah, it's amazing what you can do with a piece of vinyl and a tube of evo-stick
I spoke to VOSA at Swansea again today. They have my photo's etc but one technical officer is on holiday this week and the other phoned in sick today, so my application is stuck.
Probably a good thing as I don't fancy driving with no hood with the current weather conditions.

Just stay over 50 and you'll be fine although your evostick might melt!

Good news and bad!
The good news today is that I finally got my SVA date today.............
.......the bad news, I'm booked for the 5 September 2008 !!
When i 'phoned last week the lady said to expect a date at the end of June/beginng July, so I never expected September!
I shall phone tomorow to see there are any other options / stations with a shorter waiting list.
