220 non turbo donor for turbo 5exi
Hi.
I already have an engine and I'm looking at the 5EXI as the car to use it in. But the only donor I could find is a 220 non turbo Coupe. Are the donor bits ok for turbo? Brakes, wiring loom etc. Sorry if this is a bit obvious but I'm a bit of a newby. It's a K reg model donor.

hi, you don't say what type of 220, if it is like mine pre 96 style. there are a few issues.
1. gear change assy wrong type
2. uses seperate fuel pump and sender
3. rear hubs have to come from buble back drum car
4. wiring loom will not match very well with marlins loom
5. steering colume fouls dash
6. brake master cylinder pipes exit wrong side of car
7. rad and temp sender differ
8. inst cluster shape differs from dash.
9. heater water control vavle differs
i think there is a couple more but can't think of them at the moment
all the best tony g

Hi Tony.
The donor I was looking at was a 93 k model so sounds like it's not a suitable type. What would be the best donor? the 25 etc don't come in turbo form so if I got say a 25 what bits would I need extra other than the donor to get the turbo engine to work in the 5EXI? I'm assuming gearbox for one and would the 25 driveshafts fit from the 25 in say a 220 gearbox?

hi dont get me wrong all the items i quoted are available from a scrappy for reasonable cost. or existing can be used with a little bit of adjustment.
As for using turbo engine. i take it you would intend getting a turbo engine from another source. You can't just stick on a turbo.
you would need the engine complete with manifolds etc. and complete wiring loom including both management boxs. and it could be wise to take the drive shafts. I have been told that non tubo ones tend to pop out of the g/box. this could be because they did not change the snap rings.
mark at marlin used a bubble back 200 and put in a turbo engine ok from a tomcat.
hope this of use

Hi Tony. Unfortunatley I did not get the turbo and engine out of a donor car. Here is the link I got it from.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ME:B:EOAB:UK:6
I've got the engine complete with turbo and manafolds but no wiring or ECU's.
I think it was a good deal with the engine as it is as new. I'm kinder thinking along the limes of how Marlin done it with there bubble 200. All parts used from the donor except the engine? I was guessing that I might need the donor 200/25 for therear end/heater but wiring, driveshafts, hubs and gearbox from a 220 turbo. not sure I that guess is accurate.
Cheers

hi john
engine loom & management boxs you can obtain from 820 vitess. they are more comon in the srappy 220 turbos. looks like a nice engine but there looks like a few sensors missing, from what i could see. cam & crank position sensors at least. you can pick up the parts cdrom on ebay or if you want i could do you a copy if you send me a message with your address, so you can check all you need is there.

John,
Just read this thread...I'm currently putting a turbo'd engine into my 5exi.
I will be installing an aftermarket EMS. I will have the ECU + cam + crank sensors and various other bits available as I won't be needing them...I may also have the engine wiring loom as well etc etc...
If you need these items later then let me know. I reckon it will be new year before I turn the key and start her up.
HTH
