Default Front strut modification on E36 based sportster

Hi All,

Can anyone with an E36 based sportster let me know the length of the front struts after modification by Marlin?

I thought that the application of an angle grinder to the top of the strut below the coil spring mount to get rid of the top section might be a good plan. However, thinking about it, unless the damper is easily removable I may just end up making a mess of them. I could go ahead and remove the springs etc anyway but it would be nice to trim them down to within an inch or so of the final length to save on weight for shipping and storage space
