Smile Looking for feedback

Hi my name is bailey manogue, I am a 6th form student in West Yorkshire.
I am currently in the process of starting my graphic design A level course and I'm looking for some guidance with my chosen project which is to redesign a kit car.I'm hoping that one or more of you can help me out out by answering a few questions, thank you in advance.

1) Do you think that the kit car scene is geared too much towards an older generation? If so why do you think this?

2)If changes were made and younger people became interested would this be beneficial to the industry?

3)Are there any aspects of the more basic kit cars that you think that could be changed or completely redesigned that would benefit the comfort, style or practicality of the vehicle?

4)Can you think of ways to lower the cost of buying a kit car (This could be materials or manufacturing) or do you already think the cost is reasonable for the quality of the product?

5)I have to create a 2-D element for my course, would advertising such as leaflets and posters be suitable do you think this type of advertising works well in this industry?

The kitcar scene is multifaceted and covers everything from people building v12 Lambos from the ground up, to people doing Ferrari 355 body panel conversions. As a result you tend to find that the attendance at kit car events covers a very wide spectrum of ages, from teens up to the beardies.
Although largely male!

You're asking this question with the assumption that young people are not already interested. i.e. you've already made up your mind to question 1.

That said, I would say that the biggest factor stopping anyone from building a kit car (imho) is cost, But due to the wide range of kits and costs already on the market, i'd say that isn't as much as a stopping factor as it used to be and that time/space to build (i.e. the practical factors) now start to kick in.

Again, you're making assumptions. (sorry matey, i'm not being a prat, but i got picked up on stuff like this when i did some of my Degree questionaires )
In this case you're assuming that the more basic kits aren't already comfortable, stylish or practical! I'd disagree with the premise of the question and say that all of these can already be built-around with some clever background legwork.

The interweb, especially forums such as this and the knowledge of others! By spending some time and effort researching suppliers and talking to friends you are easily able to build a car for very little money and you don't even have to make as many compromises as you would think!

I'd say not sadly. In my experience, people in this area buy specialist mags (no, not that sort! ), join forums and read the web and join 'real world' clubs. Magazine or on-line advertising is probably useful as people do like to have a look through a source of multiple adverts to see what is available.

I hope this helps, and that i've not come over as too much of a prat?
Best of luck with the A Level, I got my A Level Design and Technology many years ago, so i can sympathise with what you're going through!

YOU MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND IF YOU MET HIM !! ( Joke )

1...
I think that was possibly the case a few years back but the introduction of glue-on kits such as the MX250 and others have possibly changed that a little...Insurance is relatively straight forward on these non-mechanical conversions giving nippers a chance to own one under 25 !

2...
The industry does need young blood to survive yes...

3...

Changes can always be made , personal choices will always control that....my old kit www.sammio.co.uk ... left that side of things totally to the builders...

4...

Lowering costs and surviving in the industry is tricky....the 'home build' style kits will always be the most cxost effective kits for the builder on a budget....your own time is cheaper than workshop rates !

5...

I found leaflets to have little effect...my best sales tool has always been show attendence and good old ebay !
