If you look at the original donor you'll see there was a lot of parts missing including the roof.
This is only the first effort but it's going well and I think an original fold-down roof with side screens could be fitted the next one, so watch this space
That said has anybody got a roof or frame going spare??

The body it now cut to fit some where right and hopfully you can see my "vision" by keeping the baulkhead and windscreen in place.
Doors will be bonded in place.

Doors now fixed and the body's fitting better.
The bonnet will need alot of "re-styling"

Are you planning to "graft" what is left of your Spitfire bonnet to the fibre glass one?
You are making great progress so far & I look forward to the rest of this build.
Good luck, Paul.

That's correct, if it all goes to plan I should end up with a nice curve forming between the fiberglass bonnet to the steel bonnet

Special Doors
Micky,
I do think the cut down doors give this car a little bit of extra eligance.
Excellent job.

You are making this look very easy.
Any chance you can talk us through the process a bit?
Do you have any photos of underside of the join?
This "joining metal to fibreglass" approach might help we when I start work on my bulkhead.
Cheers, Paul.

Thanks for the photo.
So was it just a combination of bonding, riveting & fibre glassing?
The bonnet should certainly keep its shape better than a "just" fibreglass one.
Plus you will have "factory" shut lines where it closes too.
Keep up the great work, Paul.

Sorry, I was so busy looking at the join, I missed the other significant thing in that photo...
This is the first photo of a Navigator/Cordite with a working flip up bonnet in place that I have seen.
That's not to say, no one else has done it before, just that I've not seen a photo on here.
Obviously I'm now going to ask you how you got that to work too.
Cheers, Paul.

Strange question, as I thought they all had a flip bonnet, the same is fitted to the G-46
Why not call at my workshop next time your travaling along the M4 (10 min from J16) where all will be explained. I also make a great cup-of-tea

Thanks for the offer of tea, I'll bring the biscuits if I am ever passing.
Just to explain the comment about the bonnet...
Yes, all the Cordites / Navigators came with a flip up bonnet.
However, they could only be fitted after a large section from the front of the chassis was removed.
But in order to get the re-body inspection, the chassis must be unaltered.
So personally I'm still waiting to sort out the body before I can get a working bonnet.
I hope that makes sense, Paul.

Could you tell me what materials you have used to bond the fiberglass to the metal bonnet please ? I have tried to that in the past on a trike project and had very little success in getting it to bond affectivly.
I have been told epoxy glue by a local chap who used to make a vw beetle bodykit but don't know which one as there are loads of diferent types.

red spread ? Do you mean the stuff they call Kitty hair ? looks like Ronald Macdonalds pubes in a tin of grease ! I thinks its called p38 or chopped strand mix professionelly.
I didn't have much luck with that sticking properly to metal but talking to a bodyman who certainly sounded like he knew his onions he said it has to be mega scratched up first and you use a specialist primer. does that sound right to you mick?
