What about the steering column?

What about the steering column

Most kit cars utilise a donor steering column of some sort, and most of these will be collapsible types so you are already onto a winner here as IVA will be looking for Type approved steering columns.

The steering column must use either the original approved mountings or show that the mounting is of an equivalent standard.

The mounting must also be secure (always helps)

The upper mounting, including what it is being mounted to, must also display adequate strength to demonstrate that upper column displacement will meet testing standards (displacement must not exceed 127mm)

Along with the collapsible column your steering column will probably also incorporate Universal Joints / Couplings to help deflect any frontal impact. These in turn will also be inspected to ensure they are up to the job.
