Road to stoneleigh DISASTER HAS STRUCK

OK Got in my car after work last night,

pulled out of the carpark,

noticed some squeeling coming from the fan belt, thought to myself, i'll check that in the morning...... big mistake

10minutes down the road, my charge light has lit up, and i have slight steam visable coming from the bonnet, so i pulled over and opened the bonnet, noticed the alternator belt has snapped!

Managed to limp the car home nice and slowly and left it to cool down.

so this morning i replaced the alternator belt, and also the PAS / A/C belt which was a fairly routine job,

this is when i discovered to my horror that the return pipe from the thermostat (that goes into the block) is heavily coroded, so much so that the pipe has come out of the block altogether!

with stoneleigh at the weekend, and heavy work commitments up til saturday i'm just hoping i can get this fixed before the weekend, (worst case scenario i will be attending without the MX250, but only as a last resort

fingers crossed the 1/8 bsp tapered tap and fittings i have got will do the trick! guess i'll find out for sure tomorrow

Really hope you can get it fixed, as it would be shame if your car wasn't on display.

Good luck, Paul. :)

Ohhhhh nooooooo.
Really hope its an easy fix.

Don't sweat it Martyn. It would be good if you can fix it, if not it will be good to see you anyway. Fingers crossed for you.

I know the feeling Martyn, good luck with the fix I'm sure you'll sort it.

Things are looking up,

I Think I've fixed it! Managed a successful trip to work and back on the motorway for half an hour-long each way and no sign of coolant loss!

Has put my "things to sort before stoneleigh" job list back a bit, my cars attendance looks promising!

My last minute prep involved getting a pair of 205/65 tyres on two wheels from the spare set of wire I had.

First one was no issue, remove the old tyre, replace the old tube, stick a new tube and tyre on and jobs done.

The second one was less successful. Remove the old tyre and...

Oh dear

Jesus H. Christ!

I've never seen rust on a wheel that bad.
German engineering? mmmmmm.

WorldClassAccident 2nd May 2014 16:33

That's an 'Aston Martin' wheel I bought on eBay. Only one of the set like it thankfully!

Glad I found that out before i had it fitted!!

I have been out cleaning and polishing mine, kinda wish I hadn't :(
Found quite a few marks, cracks and blemishes in my paint .
Oh well

Like Mr Towed said recently on my thread: "its all part of the game" :-)
