Engine bay wiring.

H everyone.

I'm connecting everything up and nearly finished. I'm using the 4 relay box from a bubble (start relay,Oxygen sensor, Main relay).

I have the following wires left from the Marlin loom : Brown, Purple and blacks.

And the following from the relay box :

Two Brown/Slate
1) supply for ignition coil, stepper motor, ECU, injectors.
2) supply for Oxygen sensor and starter.

One Brown/White.
Supply for fuel pump relay.

Ones I've worked out are ( i think!)

Black's = earth to chassis.
Brown = Ignition switch +. Connected to battery via fuse. Which fuse rating for this??)
Purple = Permanent live. Connected to battery via fuse. Which fuse rating for this??)

The green (switch +)= I was going to use this to supply the 2 Brown/Slate's and Brown/white above. But was not sure if this is all too much for the green wire alone? Also which fuse for these??

Cheers

John

John,
what motor and year are you fitting and I'll check if I have a diagram.

Hi Brian.

It's from a 220 Turbo and the relay box is from a 200 bubble. Checking on the Rave CD, the Brown/slate wires and Brown/White goto the engine compartment fuse box (40A label eng man and 15A also engine management fuses), then to the battery. So maybe the green wire is the wrong idea. The other idea I have is do as per diagram and used the rated fuses and connect straight to the battery. But can't find an inline fuse holder from Maplin rated at 40A.

Also found out that the starter bit is for the starter solenoid so should not too heavy on juice.

Hi John,
that's ok, mines a 220 turbo, I wired it up a while back so i'll need to refresh my memory and dig out the information I used. I'm not certain but I think the relays are all similar from model to model.

john,
I have found my wiring diagram for the t series engine management and the relay box has only 3 relays incorporated and they look to be wired differently. Is there a particular reason you are fitting a bubble relay to the T series system. If you look on the rave cd rover 600 t series engine management wiring you might be able to make sense of it.

Hi Brain.

The reason of choice for the bubble relay box was a guy that does bubble to turbo conversion's suggested this way. It's a neat little 4 relay box (600 box has no starter relay in the same box as the other three) and does away with the big Rover fuse and relay box. Also looking at the pictures from Marlin's turbo, they did it this way too.

I think I may of cracked it. I spoke to Marlin's Simon. The wires I have left over (Purple, Brown, Brown/Slate's and Brown/White) will need to connect to the positive terminal on the battery each with a 40A fuse. The Brown/White (Fuel Pump) will be fused with a 15A to the battery.

The green (switched), simon say's it's used to switch off MEM's but on the diagram it's permanent to engine compartment fuse box so look's like green will be left over.

Fingers crossed!

hi all

The relay box and engine loom for t series turbo can be a nightmare There are quite a few variants 4 relay boxs and later 3 relay boxs with different release versions of both, that are wired up different. 820's use two different Ecu's one that has alarm and one without alarm feed. most pin data diagrams i have seen show only the one plug to the ecu not two. So If like me you mixed and matched loom, ecu and relay box it can take quite a time to get it all to work together.

I was that close to going mad before it started and scared the sh** out of me as my head was next to the exhaust

all the best tony g
