New Kid on the Block
Hi all!
Thanks to a blat out in BigRichs Exi (I did note the drop of the 5 on your decals ) I finally committed and I have now placed a deposit down for my own Exi at Stoneleigh this year. So I thought I had better introduce myself to the forum! I know there is another guy out there who has also recently purchased a new Exi as well, so hopefully this is marking the revival of the beast and we will see a boom in our numbers! With all of this literature on this forum already, I'm sure every question has already been answered, but who knows, i might find something new to ask you all! |
Welcome to the place. Ask away !

Welcome to the forum.
Quite a few 5exi owners on here. What engine are you going for? Also, if you put your location in your profile. There may be another owner close to you. Bit old now, but there was a nap of owners. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...73,19.6875&z=6 |

Originally I was hoping to get a 2.0l Ecoboost engine in there, but whilst it was feasible, the cost of getting all the parts from multiple donors etc. just kept mounting up, and I was looking at an additional 10k to get it on the road. So instead i'm going for the 1.8t 20v set up, I'm currently trawling the classifieds for a Seat Leon Cupra R to use as a donor. I love your car Cees, it looks gorgeous in orange! |
Really good to hear there are some new builds, and good choice of engine! I'm a bit biased though as I'm in the process of rebuilding my EXI and swapping my old engine out in favour of a 1.8T 20V... I was looking for a Seat Leon Cupra R for a bit as well but in the end found an Audi TT Quattro in a salvage auction, perhaps give some of them a look as well?
|
Not sure how the Quattro system works in the Audi. But as long as it can be converted to two wheel drive, should be an option.
Lots of options. For example, I could not fit the six speed Seat box into my older chassis. So used the Rover PG1 box I already had from Rover T series engine. All be it beefed up at the same time. |
The Quattro system isn't a problem - you just need a different gearbox (I'm just reusing my 02J that I was running originally) although you also need to swap for the 02J flywheel/clutch as the Audi's is too big.

Got your kit yet...
Hey Noj,
Have you got your kit yet...just thinking that its a couple of months since Stoneleigh. Cheers Rich |

Hopefully I should be hearing something in the next couple of weeks |
Hey, so you must be getting your kit soon? Its been 4 weeks now...Id like to see how you are getting on with it
Cheers Rich |
Hi Rich,
So would I.... There’s been a few more hold ups as they found a few bits that needed adjusting to be IVA complaint, as well as a complete new jig needing to be set up for the roll bars. I’ve got the Donor car all ready and waiting and I’m sure now that I’ve reorganised the garage and tools more times than your average sane person, so hopefully once the kit finally does arrive, I’ll be able to jump straight in. Frustraightingly we are looking to move house around January, I was hoping to have it at least rolling and able to be loaded onto a trailer by then, fingers crossed this is still attainable! |
