Watching this with interest .......
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1953-Lanci...4AAOSwLzhZpJxt And , as hard as it might be to believe ...I read it right to the end !! |
Beautiful car and a splendid write-up!
Good luck with the sale. |
Been Googling your own name then, Gary?
|
I thought he was going to be buried in it!
Good luck with the sale. |
Not quite ....lol ...I had a message from someone who pointed the advert out to me ... I am genuinely watching this with interest , I think S*mmio's are undervalued ...I think that's partly my fault for pushing them as cheap ...I hope your different approach to marketing them works out ...
We all want our creations to return a worthy amount ....lets see where this goes ....They have made these numbers before ... |
Thanks for reminding me I said that, Jag, but I've decided cremation is the way forward...
Truth is, I've absolutely loved my time with the Spyder but I need the space so I can get on with my 356. I'm not desperate to sell either, but I am hoping someone else will fall in love with the car and enjoy it to the full. I'll keep you posted. |
Great advert ....well written ...sod the car building get writing for a classic car mag!

'What a beautiful car ! But what an even more incredible description, not ever seen an ad like that before. You could teach a lot of the high class car dealers a lesson or two ! Fantastic ! Good luck with the sale.' As for the length and detail in the ad, I believe that if you're going to sell someone their dream car you might as well do it properly. In 48hrs the ad's had over 2,000 views and 160 are watching, so it appears to have attracted quite a lot of attention. I can't say I'm surprised as it gets positive attention from complete strangers every single time I drive it. I'm sure there will be people who fall in love with the car and the (true) story of how I came to build it, and before long it will find a new home. When that happens I'll be genuinely sad to see it go as it's been a wonderful experience building and owning it. I can't thank Gary J enough for creating the shell, or James Martin enough for inspiring me to get off my backside and build my own dream car when his broke down on the Mille Miglia. Oh, and if anyone on the forum is genuinely interested in buying my Spyder, you'd better be quick as I have a feeling it's not going to hang around for long. |
That is some listing !!!!!! :first:
Best of luck in the sale. :biggrin1: |
Thanks Micky. Just had an enquiry from an interested party in Switzerland, so might need to fit a quieter exhaust...

Mister Towed – The advert’s wording, photos and price tag are all worthy of your outstanding car.
My thanks for both your build and on the road threads, which have been a great inspiration to me during my build. Although I now realise that I made a very big tactical error by not driving to Norfolk while my car was just in primer. :icon_sad: At the time, I thought my grey paint and lack of roundels would have lowered the tone of the magnificent ‘Three Musketeers’. Also, like Jag, I distinctly remember you saying your son would not inherit your car when you died as you were getting buried in it. :icon_wink: However, if I can get back on the road before you sell I will definitely arrange a visit. Good luck with the sale and I look forward to your 356 Outlaw build. Cheers, Paul. :) PS Can you forward the ebay link to the organisers of that Italian day event? |
Good luck with the sale Mr Towed, the latest mods are excellent. The need for space is understandable, Jag has a similar issue, (even if he can squeeze about 6 cars on his driveway).
I haven't even paid a deposit on my Tribute build yet (only days away) - always targeted to be my daily driver, but have already been thinking of a proper project. Scottie's car is very enticing, but I can't quite shake off the Minari bee in my bonnet. Keep posting update on the Outlaw. |
I sold one of my Mitsubishi GTO's this week to get some room.
New cunning plan currently being hatched. |
Towed ..we both ended up Spyder builder/owners for very similar reasons , both can blame a James , not James Martin in my case but the somewhat unluckier James Dean ....
When the car sells , I'm hoping you wont be a stranger and the 356 build will appear in the classic roadster section of this forum for us to follow too ... |
Thanks for the support everyone, my ad currently has 186 watching and I've had some genuine enquiries, but nothing concrete yet - one chap who arranged to view has pulled out for personal reasons, but he did say he was going to have to run it past his wife before coming to see the car...
As I'm not desperate to sell, if it hasn't sold by the end of September I'll withdraw the ad and carry on enjoying it when the weather's dry. I'll just have to work round the space issue by moving the Spyder onto the drive and putting a cover over it when I'm working on the Outlaw Speedster, which will have its own build thread once I get started. Ifi it doesn't sell, I may or may not put the Spyder up for sale next spring, it just depends on how I manage juggling the two cars around in my garage and whether I can actually bear to part with the Spyder. Paul, your car may still get its chance to play d'Artagnan to our Athos, Porthos and Aramis, you just need to get your paint finished first or you'll end up with gloss envy. Have you thought of renting a lock-up for a month, buying a gun and cheap compressor and spraying it? Could be cheaper in the long run than carrying on trying to hand paint it on your drive and you'd definitely end up with a better finish. |
Have a look out on Ebay for a decent cover. I picked one up for an Alfa Spider that fits the 250 perfectly and was as in new condition for the grand sum of £25, new it was £175.
You just have to be patient. I also managed to get 2 covers for the Mitsubishi's and one for the Jag made by the same company and the most I paid was £40. |
Good luck with the sale MrT watching this one with interest.
Have you placed an add else were. |
Wicked car. Great Ad.
Good luck Mr T. Looking forward to the outlaw build thread. Dave |
