Hi , new around here and desperately trying to get a Miglia underway.
My first question?
How do you get hold of these guys?

Should this rocky start be a warning sign or are they on vacation or something?

I would bid on the ebay item and buy it now , should get a reply that way butr I want to go and see a demo car or similar and meet the operators before I part with the greenbacks .

toe911 - It is fair to say a few people have not been able to get hold of Mike recently.

However, if you wanted to see a car/build, where are you based?

As this is a list of all the Miglia Speedster builds that I know of:

Builder - Location
DaveCymru - West Somerset
Thurcroft Flyer - Thurcroft, Rotherham South Yorkshire
Carib Classics - Worcester
tlrtone - Poole, Dorset
mas123mas - Teesside
Derby Dreamer - South Derbyshire
Marc F (Spitfire based) - ???
Rattler - France
1iTim - NSW Australia

Hope that helps, Paul. :)

Hi toe911,

As Paul mentioned, if you're around my neck of the woods then you are more than welcome to pop in for a nosey at my build.

Please feel free to drop me a PM if you are, or if you want to discuss any of my experiences.

Thanks guys . I am in a village near Penzance called Cockwell.
I appreciate the offer of seeing your car Cymru but I really want to suss out the operation thats going to take quite a bit of money off me first. You hear such horror stories about companies taking deposits and going tits up etc.
Hopefully Miglia head honcho or one of his team will see this.

Mikes been in touch ! I received a message via this forum so thank you guys , this place rocks !

I dont want to share mikes personal stuff on here , thats his decision should he opt to do so , but will say that as a result of Mikes communication , I feel I may be better suited with a similar product.

Who's offering the look a likes nowadays?

Try 'micky1mo' on the Sammio/Ribble thread as he is introducing a remodelled version shortly. He took over what was left of the original Sammio/Ribble moulds, but was going to do a relaunch with an improved product.

I do hope Micky1mo manages to get the Spyder back into production, it'd be such a shame if these cars were to disappear from the scene.

You could always PM El Primer, he was advertising an original Sammio Spyder body recently and may still have it.

toe911 - In addition to the Sammio range mentioned above, Tribute Automotive do the A352 which is Spitfire based.

This also uses the "cut down" body shell approach that the "all new" Spyder is going to follow.
( See Froggyman's second link above. )

Personally, I think this is a great approach to building a kit.

As if your donor is running OK when you start the build, you can still start the engine and drive it about while under construction.

Good luck, Paul. :)

Paul L , the TRIBUTE looks too much like something else for me . I like the individual look of the Miglia styled cars.
thank you anyhow for your imput.
Towed , I may well follow that lead . Was there any framework I wonder , and if not would a supplier sell me just framework?
All stuff too look at , think about , yardy , yardy , ya , ya !

This is copied from El Primer's post on the Sammio page -

I have a new , unused Sammio Spyder body that has come into my possession but I know I won't build it.
It is from the earlier run of bodies from what I can see.

Its new , never fitted and is body and bonnet only , no framework.

£400

Body located in Dorset.

pm me for further details .

Thank you

There are plans for the framework kicking around - early cars came without a frame, you had to make your own. It'd be worth contacting El Primer as he might just be able to help with plans for the frame as well as having a body available.

Redrat, do you have a link to the new 356 project? I got really interested when Mike produced that mould as I've wanted a speedster for a long time, but I had a feeling it might not become a kit you could actually buy.

Towed . Thank you for the nudge on that body.
It is kind of spoken for . A guy was meant to be collecting last Sunday but cancelled.
He should be collecting this w/end. I will update if any different.

The 356 kit available may well be the Miglia one . I know Mike doesnt have the moulds anymore , my understanding is they went back to their owners who had already dabbled with a few builds previously. Mike was commissioned to be the front man and kit producer. The bodies I saw at that time looked to be a decent quality finish ( very similar to high end options available currently in the UK marketplace ) I dont know the ins and outs of things but I know that Mike never quoted a kit price , to the best of my knowledge , possibly because that wasn't determined at that time , and before that could be fully agreed , the owner requested the moulds and jigs back.
Mike told me at the time they were coming back to him at some stage , so that is a distinct possibility.

Of course , if its not the moulds Mike had , then the above is irrelevant !

Would you consider an unfinished Sammio Spyder project?

In which case it might be worth posting a "Wanted" thread next door.

Note: Personally I wouldn't touch an unfinished Sammio Cordite project with a barge pole.

But the Herald based Spyder is a well documented build.

Good luck, Paul. :)

Thanks for the link and the update on Mike's involvement with the speedster project El P.

The price is about £1200 cheaper than the similarly comprehensive kit available from Martin and Walker, but the M&W offering does come with the engine lid, bonnet and doors ready fitted.

That's a pretty good price for a speedster body tbh, but it's the price of the bits you don't get plus the dreaded iva test that bump the price up. I'd calculated that I'd need to budget about £13-£15k to put a half decent car on the road, so that would only drop to between £12-£14k with this kit.

Anyway, I really hope Micky1Mo gets the Sammio Spyder project back into production as at a build cost of typically £3-£5k, it offered us enthusiasts the most incredible value for money entry into a great looking classic race car.

The 356 body looks to be top quality and is pretty comprehensive in terms of body panels - things like the bumpers and engine sealing panel often seem to get left out -

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag120/smonebillion/_572_zpstzcehza7.jpg (http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/smonebillion/media/_572_zpstzcehza7.jpg.html)

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag120/smonebillion/_57_zpsnnhxzizi.jpg (http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/smonebillion/media/_57_zpsnnhxzizi.jpg.html)

But there's no mention whether the seller can also supply any of the 'little' items you'd need to put one on the road. The windscreen assembly, soft-top, bumper rubbers, side trim, instruments, seats etc. are all expensive items. If they can't be sourced from the body supplier you'd have to rely on the good will of a competitor like M&W to actually sell you the parts you need to finish a kit you didn't buy from them. :eusa_naughty:

It looks like the seller has access to all the bits'n'bobs necessary to get a car on the road, and the finished (almost) article looks very nice indeed -

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag120/smonebillion/_571_zps0p9dxlky.jpg (http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/smonebillion/media/_571_zps0p9dxlky.jpg.html)

I'm still tempted by the 356 Speedster as it's a surprisingly practical sports car that looks great, but to me, the value and relative simplicity of the Sammio/Tribute (no iva) route is just too tempting for me to actually go for one.

I hope they do well though as it'd be nice to have a choice of supplier if I ever did decide to build a speedster.

I was wondering if any unfinished Miglias might be available or if anyone knows of any ?
I also wondered if there is any more examples of finished cars I can see?
Cymru's is nearly there but quite a few of these have been sold , so where are they ?

Hi Toe,

Not sure if you got anything sorted out with the Miglia route but if not and you are still interested Gaz Davies is selling a Sammio/Ribble body shell.

Thankyou BazM.
I took a trip to Tribute Saturday. As a result of phoning them and getting an answer , I made the trip up to see Chris . Despite being incredibly busy , Chris took the time out to answer my stupid questions and as a result , I will be ordering a Mistral body and a few special touches to make it a bit different.
I really could of benefitted from not seeing that SWB package though !
maybe next time !
So , if anyone who supplies similar kits is reading , an answered phone call and/or email can lead to a sale !!

Thanks again Chris.

Ooh, I do hope you put up a build thread as I've been fascinated by the Mistral idea for a while now. Good luck with it and well done for taking the plunge.

Yes, please make sure you document what you get up to with a build thread.

I'm really looking forward to seeing one of these completed.
