Tlrtone, the top picture looks a lot of old cobra's, and as for the colour, is that the sickly sad girly colour that BMW do their mini in? Still at least your car will be more reliable than a BMW Mini.:biggrin:

Hi Dave,

I think that is just a coloured gel coat!
( It was still in the mould when I popped into the factory )

I think Gary wanted to show what the "standard" finish would look like "out of the box" so to speak.

But agree with you it looks great.

I chatted to Mike for a bit and everyone was busy so i will intriduce myself next time.
My wife is already a build widow and considers shows as just another excuse to bore her with cars. Maybe the wives will start their own forum.

i think from listening to comments about it - some got it and had the vision to see a finished car- our kind of people.

And then there were the others - who want the kits to be by the number and the instructions to tell every move. They looked but did not see the potential.

The show was a wash out - quite literally but i made a couple of important purchases and i managed to get another coat of paint on the roadster before i left - 8am. The neighbours think im mad - maybe i am.

Ah well, I am a 'semi-lurker', waiting to see the Cordite, which I now have in pics...need to see it in the flesh too. I have a Burlington Arrow, Herald 13/60 base, which I still need to fall out of love with before I start aSammio. I am not fond of the triu.mph back axle and can perform 'tuck' on deman on the Arrow. So I am planning a Dutton base, Cordite rear, Spyder or German front (need the wheelbase to match the dutton) At the mo still doing a 60hr week as boating busy period, and workshop full!
So, in a nutshell...no thread yet!

Hi Seanick. If you're worried about axle tuck induced oversteer there are several ways you can alleviate those symptoms:

A number of Spyder builders have converted their Herald/Vitesse rear end to the Spitfire IV/1500 swing spring set-up;

Using a Spitfire IV or 1500 as a Cordite donor will give you the swing-spring back end as standard anyway;

A Mk2 Vitesse donor will come with double-jointed Rotoflex rear driveshafts;

Or, like mine, lowering a swing-axle Herald or Vitesse by around 90mm means that under hard cornering when the weight comes off one side the wheel reaches the end of its travel before it gets anywhere near tucking under. In the pic below I've jacked up one side but both wheels are off the ground :)

Anyway, if you're the kind of guy who enjoys building/driving an Arrow I'm sure the Sammio bug will bite soon...

Oh, and just noticed that in this picture it's kind of simulating a hard left corner where the off-side wheel would actually be under full load rather than dangling as it is but the attitude of the nearside wheel is critical as that's the one that would be in danger of tucking under, and, as you can see, it's almost vertical to the ground at full extension so no tuck under.

Thanks Towed, I did not know all that. I have just lowered mine with a 1" block and its got 4 leaves removed. This gives a nice ride, I think still too firm though, but also results in quite a bit of negative camber...see pichttp://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg263/Seanick_bucket/IMG_0778.jpg
MUCH better cornering than the positive camber it had before.

So I have now sourced a swing spring, and once its on can set the mudguards up better. I think it will be to hard, so may remove a leaf or two. Bad idea re tucking?
