Hey guys - Hope all is going well for everyone!

Just a quick question for someone who's already completed the heating system on the 5exi - I have been supplied with what i feel to be the wrong radiator needed for the build. I have spoken with Mark twice as to which donor the rad should come from (200 bubble 1994-1998) which is what i have been supplied (so they say) from my parts man!

However.... the radiator i have, still seems to be too short and too high and i am assured it is from the Rover 200 from the correct year... The rad i have, measures approx 16" x 21" looking at the pictures from Marlin and looking at the chassis, it looks like the rad measurements should be more like 12" x 24" (approx)

Did anyone else have this problem.... Can anyone help?!?

Thanks in advance.

Andy

If you go to April on my build web site http://www.johnil.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/5exi. Do these help?? If not I can measure up for you tonight.

Rad should be from a 216 bubble I think.

From memory I think it should be approx 60cm across.

I know the 1.4 rad is smaller and the Diesel is narrower but taller.

Have tried the link to your website John and it wouldn't let me on it... Is it a prob my end?!

If you could measure yours for me over the nxt couple of days that would be a great help.... I wont be doin anything until Saturday now anyway.

From what Ex-Biker has said, it sounds like i have the rad from the Deisel as its narrower and taller... and the 60cm measurement seems about spot on, My rad is about 52cm in length... Thanks for the help guys....

hi andy

I dont know if this will apply to you but some rads have a hole for a temp switch for the fan in the rad. So you have to get the right one. I have used a rad fom a up to 96 216 but it did not have a hole for a temp switch in and i had to make one. as the turbo engine uses one. But It no big job to cut the hole as you can see where it would be in the plastic side mouldings

the fit is good so if you do not need the hole it would seem to be the one for you.

all the best

Hi Tony.

I'm still in the process on getting my head round how to plumb the turbo version.

Why did you cut a hole in the rad for the temp switch for the turbo version?

Cheers

hi john

the turbo engine (820 vittese) i am using and the 220 gti donor has a temp fan switch in the thermostat housing and a switch the rad for the cooling fan. The 216 rad did not have a hole in the side of the rad to take the therm switch

I do not know why I should need two but the exi loom has the wiring for both so i used them.

all the best
