Hi 2 all builders

I am about to cut and shape my 5exi dash and was hoping someone can help my docile brain...

Even tho i spent FAR to much time fiddlin to get it right, do i really need the heater dist box / fan assembly fitted to the car? Instead, I would like a stereo in place of the heater control panel, have no vents on the dash and just a cool set of dials! Is this "allowed" or would it fail an SVA? I dont know how strict these SVA tests are... Its not like i'm gonna need the fans with no roof on a sunny day!!!!

Appreciate any help and hope everyones build is going as planned.

Regards

Andy

The sva requires demisting capability, you don't necessarily have to fit the heater assembly, there are products available that will do the job. The best thing for you to do is to check out the Stoneleigh Show where anything and everything for kit cars is for sale. I personally prefer the heater option, it's after all free with the donor and will be pretty reliable, I do admit it takes up a lot of room under the dash though. I would have thought a music system with a column control and cd multichanger could be mounted almost anywhere, or maybe not. good luck with it. Brian.

Thanks Brian,

I have found out a heated front screen is acceptable for SVA as well.... unfortunately, the Elise screen doesnt come with that option... Shame!! Can get a customed made heated Elise screen for just under £1000 so think i will just stick to origanal plan and lose the music system idea... (4now!)!

£1000 a bit steep for demisting a screen me thinks!!!

Also - whens this Stonleigh show on??? Would be interested in havin a peek!!!! :icon_eek:

It's coming up the weekend after next, sunday and bank holiday monday, and it's the largest show of the year, not to be missed if you're building a kit. I know Marlin will be there with the new 5exi with doors, only for girls in my opinion. Brian.

Thanks B.

I will DEFO be at Stoneliegh next weekend then, dont think the enemy will be too pleased as I've promised to spend time AWAY from the build next weekend abd time with her.... Technically, i wont be "building" the tho car will i so will be a nice day out for us both aye... ha ha!!

Totally agree about the doors too... Better without em in my opinion.... that said tho... they did look pretty cool when i saw them at the factory couple months ago...!!!!

Hope you're build is coming along as planned.

Spk soon

Has anyone had their dash flocked? If yes what's it like (any pics) and who or how was it done. Is it expensive.

I am also looking at a 2K soft feel finish as per most new car interiors. will advise on what I find out.

Hi Mke.

Dylan's had his done. Here are the pictures. www.purplematrix.co.uk/5exi

He had the dash done by http://www.nfauto.co.uk/ car builder solutions and it costs in the region of £200. But if you want a go yourself you can get the stuff for £16 per square meter from www.frost.co.uk.

HTH.
