View Full Version : Design process-MEV-Rocket body styling

I've been a fan of the Atom for quite some time, and always thought that a more affordable kit should be designed.

I think the new Mev rocket is the closest to this concept, and just for fun, I thought about creating a few body shapes over its chassis.:
http://www.mevltd.co.uk/rocketad.htm

Who knows maybe I could try to build it someday...:)

Would like to have your design feedback, on the various sketches I will be posting in the future.

Thanks in advance for your comments and critique
Cheers

As usual, looks great.

How about a smaller screen / wind deflector?

Saying that, the front end looks spot on!
Those lights look like they would work really well.

I like the idea of an inner panel in the driver / passenger compartment, showing the 'frame' off.

When can I have one?

Thanks Mark, yes you can have a smaller wind deflector/screen, and for the order.....we can work on that.:)

I'd also like smaller wheels - say 15" front and 17" rear????

I think you shouldn't have a problem in fitting those wheels, and they would be perfect for both, your track and road version.

What options or other models do you think this chassis can take?, I was thinking of a step in Coupe, what do you think?

I need everyones feedback for another design sketch.:)

What about fully enclosed bodywork, does the front lend itself to an enclosed F1 type front end something on the lines of the Enzo?

Italo, glad to see the copyright logo on your design.

You never know....:), but i don't worry too much about it, because if anyone wants to steel it, they can alter a few parts of it, and say its an original design.

I also have a very friendly Lawyer/solicitor...:)

I gotta say, I prefer the first one.

A less complicated screen & I reckon it would be a winner.

I mentioned the (C) following the post on a certain other site. My honest thought was 'the cheeky bar steward'

I like the look of the 2nd one (green one) over the others. Looks more purposeful.

I think the green proposal is less toy like and more sportscar, and i agree with you.

It will be more expensive to manufacture.....

Front and top grills look great and will allow down force to be introduced at the front. Would you invisage the doors to open including part of the rear fin.
Keep up the good work who knows I may pluck up the bottle to build one one day and test the market but I could do with a bit more feed back if anyone out there is willing to assist in my market research. Kind regards Stig Mills

Just thought that it doesn't make much sense, to make a coupe on this type of chassis.

I believe Mev does have a it covered in their line-up with the MEV 3...a 3 seater roadster, that can become a coupe....

Any other suggestions ?

nice pics fuoriserie.

unfortunately i cant see the last two sketches...any chance of re posting them..?

look on the website theres a new pic of the bodywork ...well what little there is....lol i like the lights he has....which also have the indicators on the top of them visible from the drivers seat so probably wont need a visual indicator on the extremely small dash for SVA..

do you have any ideas for a paint job on the stock bodywork and chassis ( i know by the pics youve posted its a little bit beneath you(and off topic) but you obviously have an eye for good design) just for those of us who couldnt afford or be good enough to make swish panels like yours...

cheers and keep them coming

Thanks.

For a paint job, I would consider motorcycle paint schemes, because these are 4 wheel motorcycles track)road cars..

I like the Benelli paint graphics, especially the painted chassis, and my favourite colour would be metallic yellow, with a dark red/purple metallic chassis, just like the Benelli Cafe racer you see here.

nice pics and ideas about the bike paintjob
i agree with you that they are a 4 wheel version of a bike....thats why i like them so much being an Ex biker
the reason i ask about paint jobs is that im thinking of buying one have no experience with glass fibre and very little imagination where colour schemes come into it. although i do want it to be as bare as possible which i think he has done a good job achieving.
my imagination ran out with yellow frame and black panels with some sort of yellow in them.
i think i would do a standard build and then maybe try to mess around with the glass fibre panels afterwards...

cheers

I would go for a yellow mettallic paint for the body, with a dark mettalic red or grey for the chassis.
Triumph motorcycles have great metallic paints, you could use one of 599 options.
Good luck with your project

Just read your PM, and replied....

I think it's one of the most interesting exo-skeleton new kits, because it's so basic and minimalist in its design.

You do have the possibility to create different body shapes, and the potential is great for this type of kit.

I'm working on a few more ideas, maybe to incorporate on a personal design project, using a similar chassis......:)

Did you ever surce any parts for your design ?

Hi,

My sketches were done sometime ago and will try to locate them in my archives.

to show again in the forum.

May I ask why would you want to replicate the Atom, when you could make an original design still inspired by the Atom ?
