As useful as the well nuts are I don't think they will work for me yet if you look at the photo you will see where the lip is and where I need it to be.

\the strip of alloy is where I need the lip too be, So two options I think
1 cut off the lip and build a new one
2 build up the current lip with glass fibre past then cut it down to the required profile hopefully retaining the strength of the original lip? anyone got any better ideas?
Um no not really or am I just being a bit dull doh!
That sounds like a viable option it depends how difficult it is to accurately bend alloy angle in two planes without a bendy stretchy shrinky tool thingy? but as the alloy angle is quite cheep I'll get some and give it a go.

Started on the doors a friend has a metal shrinking machine and our first attempt at bending the angle alloy the wood is some beech hardwood for the passenger seat to raise it to the same level as the drivers one which has runners.

The errant lips have now been cut off the doors which will have to be reinforced along the top edge then filled and sanded before taking them back to my friend to get the angle to a good fit I hope.

I managed to get a bit moor done this weekend I finished off the door lips these will be fitted after the car has been painted.
I also managed to get some door latches very cheep off flea bay, they are off a mini and should do the job nicely I will have to make some locating pins as they didn't come with them the leavers are actually the locking arms I could use them as openers or try to make some?

Scottie nice to hear from you Just a little bit too late but that's fine the alloy angle one's should work just fine and they'll be removable for those wonderful sunny days we get in this country!
Not much happening at the moment I am collecting all the bits needed to make the door opening and closing mechanism I' bent the striker pins and need to make the mounting plates I need to drill and tap the square drives bur failed miserably so I'll have to phone a friend (with a lathe) still waiting for some parts to make the handle bearings!

I cant believe the time and effort it is taking to make these door mechanism's, this is the first effort to make the striker pins but they wouldn't lock something to do with the bends I think?
I ended up with this but will probably change them as I may catch my clothes on them.
my tool maker friend Paul R turned the handle spindles for me
I have welded the lugs on with a 5mm thick washer as a bearing

as the doors only have a single hinge they tend to drop a bit (lot) so I have to make some sort of alignment thingy??
I am considering doing a Scottie on the boot lid and have marked it out ready for cutting Pros more usable boot space moor manageable boot lid and easer to make a locking system. Cons an awful lot of work
Well I took the plunge and cut the boot in in half if it all goes wrong I'm blaming Scottie It was his idea and I'm just being a copy cat!!
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

cutting the first lip out of glass fibre sheet
and the lip glassed into place
The corner sections are were made by simply taping a strip of card to the right profile and back filling with fibre glass paste again.
It will all be filled in later
The lower lip marked out ready for cutting but it was getting too cold in my tin shed to continue so Ill have a go at that on Wednesday with a bit of luck till then tata for now

I then decided to do the boot lid lip
it should have been quite easy a card strip taped in place and back filled with glass paste
but it was so cold it took over an hour to set and it sort of bowed a bit
a bit of sabding and filling to get it right
