One of my friends will be doing the mot so I'm hoping he'll allow me some time while I'm there to use his alignment thingy as I suspect my headlights will be aiming all over the joint!
I may have just ordered a proper exhaust as well. Same as yours Swifty as it popped up on eBay!
Yeah I got it and looking forward to getting it on the car. It's another step to getting it on the road. I do still have a few bits to sort out before I can get it booked in but am spending as much of my free time on it as possible. Hopefully getting a new battery for it tomorrow so I'll be able to get it out the garage!
Nice new exhaust as the other one is just a bit too much hassle for the moment. Must learn to weld.
Painted rear end, exhaust fitted but all hanging a bit too low for my liking. Will have to have a go at getting it all a bit higher. I was really hoping to get the car out today but will have to wait til next week now
The mounts I've used are a pretty standard size I think, same as what came off. They'll need to be pretty small to get the exhaust a couple of inches higher. Not sure why there's such a difference between yours and mine. Might be best for me to just add some new mounting points higher up.
Thanks Dave, I'm really pleased with how it's come out so far although it definitely looks better from a few feet away rather than close up.
Thanks Wozzy, I'll hopefully get the car out over the next few days so will take a few decent pictures then. Hadnt really thought about rally flaps but they'd look pretty cool I think. Red maybe?
Little update for today. I got fed up with attaching and removing the battery terminal and then forgetting about it and ending up with no juice so fitted this:
Not that it'll help me remember to remove it mind. Maybe I could put an led on it or something. Eventually, I want a proper external battery isolator.
Also have decided to add a fuel flap after filling in the original hole. Hindsight and all that. Anyway, I found this one which is for a jeep which I reckon will look pretty good, plus the hole is big so I can reach the filler behind it easily.
Keeps it warm during the winter obvs
Jeep cap is really good. Can easily get my hand through with loads of room to reach the filler. I think it'll be quite close to the shut line between the clam and skirt though.
My boy woke me up early so rather than go back to bed, I went a drilled some holes in the bonnet and fitted some window squirters. I know the rs200 didn't have them there but I don't think they look out of place.
Provisionally fitted the fuel flap. Was a bit daunting drilling a massive hole in the side of the car but there we go. I need to put a little filler around the edges as the panel has a slight curve. I quite like it. Can't wait to roll the car out and see it all in daylight!!
Thanks chaps, Wozzy, will check for you next time I pop outside. The one I bought from eBay doesn't seem to be there anymore but it's the same as this one:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292672140859
Jaguartvr, I had considered running the hose up the wipers. I'm not quite sure why I decided to go with drilling holes in the bonnet to be honest. It was probably just because I had a couple of squirters spare and it was a job that needed doing.
Finally!!! Got the car out into daylight. I'm pretty pleased with it I have to say.
Still lots of bits to do but only a couple left which really matter before I can take it for an MOT.
Swifty, bought one of these:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322314609966
Dead easy to fit although it didn't want to stick with just the gluey stuff so put a few tec screws through it for good measure.
Bring the car down, we'll have it sprayed in 3 days. There's a nice premier Inn just down the road
Wozzy, loads mate! Although not too much before the MOT hopefully. Just the rear fog light, reg lights+plates and rear wheel arches I think. Headlights will need aligning too so hoping for some time on my mates alignment thingy. Bit worried about the handbrake as I know they're notoriously crap on these.
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement folks!
Wozzy, Simoniz tough satin spray paint (rattle cans) and one of these
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302801547282 to stop my finger aching. Actually made the job much easier and the paint gave a really good finish.
I find that my finger aches after ten minutes of spraying, much nicer to have a trigger.
Sorted the fuel flap out yesterday and glued down the hardtop with two tubes of sikaflex

my hands now look like I may have caught the plague. Even with gloves on, the stuff goes everywhere!!!
Not yet no. I may do in the future just so I can put it on if I feel like it but I prefer the look of the car without.
Managed to get outside for the first time in what feels like months!! Tidied the garage, finished the mesh and fitted the reg plate.
Opinions please, chrome or black mesh? Obviously, if I go for black, there'll be no turning back.
Photobucket is a bit rubbish to be honest mate. Are you getting error messages when you try to post pics? Bandwidth or something? I use Imgur, much less hassle.
