I had a bit of off white spray so gave it a dusting to see how it looks. I much prefer it without the front vents. I think they distract the eye from the overall shape, and from the non-grill.

Managed to lose them in three fills and a lot of long boarding. I use an aluminium strip laid over the area I am fairing as it easily shows the lows. For tight rads I use a hacksaw blade, then mark them with a pencil. Makes filling quicker!

Yes to a stick on numberplate. I have a 1963 plate going on, thats A reg first time round, black and silver (for show plates, of course).

After a lot of thought, I have shelved the plan of making the front flip. I think its possible, but not for my time scale. About 18/20 bolts takes it off anyway, so seems silly to pursue it.
Spent an hour or so relocating the expansion tank to the other side, and twiddling the brackets for the fuse box and locating it over the suspension turret.

I want hinges, but have played around with the old bonnet hinges and dont think they will work. I may try the boot hinges or look around the scrappy for ideas. Maybe cantilever like on early escorts?
Like mist people time is short now, and it will be Jan before I refocus on it.
I did go Christmas shopping today, and came back with a nice 3M longboard and the paint!!!
I have bought hi-build primer, which is grey.
Still can't make up my mind over top coat. Favorite so far is the lime green, or a dark metallic silver....sort of graphite colour. However I have never sprayed metallics, so it might be a disastrous choice!
Any colour suggestions anyone?
Had a go a the bonnet hinges this eve. Ended up using the boot hinges, removing all the bits and just leaving the main arm. Made a bracket out of 3/4 by 3/4" angle, and bolted it to the body using two existing holes, one of which has a captive nut underneath.
I think it will work, as the pivot point is forward of the bonnet front. However I have yet to try it as my bonnet inner moulding is still in the garden! I needed to trim the inner flange to get clearance. It will need a packer on top. I may glass a steel plate onto the bonnet and weld on a couple of lengths of studding, the the bonnet can be adjusted up or down without shims.

That was my initial thought too, a nice silver,, but I think yellow would scream KIT CAR!!.
The only problem with silver or any metalic is my ability to apply it.
Maybe pale yellow would be okay.
Blue does not really appeal to me, although I do have some blue in the interior, I will have to live with it for now.
As for lime green....possible the most famous 250GTO ,Stirling Moss' car which sold this year for 22.5 MILLION...

Whilst I am sure this could be done in CAD in an instant it took a bit of old fashioned trial and error.
This should lift the bonnet front up and over the rad filler and up to about 50°.
I plan to use the existing studs that bolted the raising light mechanism. make a simple plinth from angle about 5" high to mount the hinge on.

[SIZE="3"]Thanks Peeps i, however I made these up this afternoon.....they bolt onto the old headlight mounts where there are two 8mm studs. They lift the bonnet right up and well clear of the front edge of the body. They need a bit more drilling for weight loss, but they work well, and rake the bonnet to approx 60 degrees. With a bit of tweaking they should go to 80 degrees.[/SIZE]l[IMG]

The end that is cut at an angle will have s plate welded to it to mount to the inner bonnet molding. I will have to put some extra bumps in to do this, but will probably use some of the inner molding I have cut out just repositioned. I have had to cut a lot away to get clearance for my sporty bits!

Thanks Peeps, yes I think Brunel was pretty cool! They are pretty strong. I could get air lifted bout by them if need be. I have drilled them out a bit to save a few grams.....

Good idea John, all I can come up with is either wing nuts on the mounts or it would only be two nuts per side to split the hinges. I might weld up two of the bolts. Good idea!

Chopped out the middle of the bonnet inner molding (sorry Chris) to get clearance over my suspension brace, but also to use sections if the molding to add new hinge mounts further out....[IMG]

[SIZE="3"]Fitted an 8" strip of 4mm steel into the new bumps for the hinges. Bedded them on filler, then glassed over the top with 6 layers.[/SIZE]
[SIZE="3"]Glued the inner and outer skins of the bonnet together with a polyurethane constructional adhesive. Hope its the right shape! Had some foam so filled the voids in a bit.[/SIZE]
Um....we have more...these are the small ones....can probably manage about 130, plus sash cramps....
