Night all!
21 Oct 2013, 11:07am General Update
Scottie - the back end is basically a modded d-type which is why the lights suit it.

Chris will be doing further mods to add some vents and then french in the lights similar to this

Thanks, I do like it but have you seen the price!

It's a glorified Dinky toy and they want nearly £300!

I will make do with what Chris is building, but thanks for the link

First picture of the fuel filler looks like you sticker blitzed it. Just the reflection thankfully.

Colour is a bit redder and less ruby than the final plan but looks good.

I like the twin exhaust pipes but will probably stick with the side exhausts. What does it sound like?

If you can mount the boot straight I am actually quite taken with the high level light. Not exactly period but can you leave if there up until I get a chance to see it.

Great work Chris

Typo by Chris - the kits cost shit loads more than that. How else am I going to sell one for 32,000 euro?

;-)

It looks even better in reality than the pictures.

So close to complete.

Now I am off the scour the internet for neat fog/reverse light solutions although I really like SeaNicks 'fog light on a stick' concept.
27 Oct 2013, 3:20pm General Update
I basically agree Danny. Just considering the options.

One idea was to have a hole cut into the back similar to some of those on the original Maserati, putting a Tow Here sticker pointing at it and then hide the Fog light inside the hole out of sight.
29 Oct 2013, 6:56pm General Update
Fog Light Solution.

Stick a hole in the rear end where the tow point is (see image below). Stick the light inside the hole so it shines out to pass the MOT but doesn't really show.

I can then adjust the fog light out the way if I hook up a tow strap when I go racing.

If it looks okay then stick another hole on the other side with a reversing light inside it. Given the rear visibility I DIDN'T have when I sat in the car at Exeter I think a light beam to focus on might prove useful.

Chris - If it looks like it will be rubbish then do what every you think will work.

November 2013

6 Nov 2013, 8:00pm General Update
Hi Chris, any photos of progress?

Stuck in a hotel in Vegas and bored of the whores and crack. Fly back tomorrow thankfully

Hi Chris
Thanks for the photos. Checking this on the phone in the airport so details are a bit difficult to be certain on. Rear slats look great. Are the panels with slays in the front wings? Of so, can the vents all be the same size as the large one? All else looks good.
Cheers

Can't wait until Saturday when I pick it up!

Pictures?

There will be pictures, movies, sound tracks, the whole shebang!

Just interviewing photographers and videographers at the moment...
16 Nov 2013, 6:30pm Chassis and Body
All my great plans of lots of photos were ruined by me talking for too long with Chris, slight rain in the new Forest and then showing my new toy off to friends. There will be photos tomorrow (weather permitting).

Here is a low res video of Chris having quick shake down run before handing over the car. Turn up the audio to hear the car before you see it.

Hmm. How do I embed YouTube clips here?

My Outstanding task list (or at least my current best guess so please add suggestions/recommendations)

Starting from the front of the car and working backwards, not necessarily the order I will do the jobs

1) Fit the front number plate somehow while I decide between a low mounted one or a sticker across the nose
2) Bonnet release lever - Relocate/adjust so the lever works rather than reaching through the front grill hole
3) Front Grill - Get some 4mm sheet aluminium cut to form the vertical slats and then some black mesh behind that.
4) Fit the chrome headlight surrounds
5) Fit the hub adaptors and wire wheels to determine the issue with the nuts depth
6) Properly locate and fix the front wheel arch liners
7) Test my spraying skills on the removeable front wings
8) If the result is bearable, spray over the remaining undercoat
9) Get a price for chrome vinyl wrap for the windscreen surround so it ties in with the chrome spinners, door mirrors and roll hoops. Decide it is too much, paint it black, decide it looks rubbish and get it vinyled after all
10) Clean the filler dust off the hood
11) Give a couple of coats of paint to the side exhausts
12) Wrap the back of the exhaust with heat wrap so it doesn't melt the fuel tank
13) Fit a panel covering where the exhausts exit to just leave two stubby pipe ends exposed
14) Sort out the rear arch liners to ensure a good fit
15) Grill over the 3rd brake light slot
16) Boot opener to be sourced and fitted
17) Get Chris to fit the door handles I want
18) Send to the paint shop
19) Order a NI number plate
20) Order and fit square rear plate (possibly a black and silver 'show plate'
21) Order and fit front plate, either sticker or low mounted
22) Decide what I want to do with the interior and do it or outsource it
16 Nov 2013, 10:32pm General Update
Scottie - I have the original BMW boot latch mechanism, I just need to rig the cabling. I will be using your excellant pictures for clues though. With regard to the vinyl wrap, it will probably be early necxt year before I get that far as I have sort of run ut of money in the lead up to Christmas but I will let you know as things develop.

I hope to get through a few things on the list in the next few weeks, time and weather permitting.

0 - Post up pictures! I am just having my first coffee of the day and then will take the camera outside for the first set of 'Before' pictures. Hopefull slightly better quality than the video

24 - clean and paint wire wheels
25 - paint silver sills black to check the effect
17 Nov 2013, 10:42am Mechanical Overhaul Chassis and Body Interior & Trim
The wrap would only be for the silver bits around the screen and probably have to be done in three sections rather than a single piece all the way round.

10:30 Update - Finished coffee, taken some photos, done some stuff

What I received from Chris

Wire wheels from another forum member needed a little cleaning before undercoating and painting black

The bonnet wasn't releasing properly so a little investigation and I found the passenger side wheel arch liner slightly snagged the bonnet so needed trimming and the bonnet release catch needed optimally aligning (bending into place)

While trimming the wheel arch liner I realised they weren't fully fixed so...

Opening and closing the bonnet revealed an irritating rattle. After much investigation I gave up and shut the bonnet with a bang and look what revealed themself. I wonder if they were important?

I removed the loose bits and added the chrome surrounds to the lights

Another coffee and think what is next
