Morning i think this could be one of those discussion`s where each (side) would have already decided the best way forward , certainly i have , being old enough to have owned a Herald and a Spitfire when they were cheap secondhand cars , i dont recall a great deal of heritage , history or pedigree , then that is probaly more down to me being a Escort rally man . There will be a number of people on here with the car building skills that i can only dream about (you know who you are) so if i can get a usable replica by going down the Z3 route so be it , Geoff .

Good afternoon WELL there has been a change of plan! no i am not changing to a Cobra build still having a BMW Z250 SWB Replica/Coracle or what ever the DVLA should decide , but i have decided that the car is going to look to good just to use on the odd weekend or sunny day , so i have bought another Z3 couple of years younger 2001 instead of 1999 and 2.2l instread of 2.8l , to use on a more regular basis . Now before all the offers come in to buy my old Z3 some bloke in Dorset! has bought it and you never now he may even join the Tribute Owners Club as a full member

Well that was hard work , i am currently working away during the week so the only chance to do any work on the (new)Z3 is at weekends , i need to remove all the panels, the roof and some of the interior before shipping it to Dorset , so after 5 hrs the boot,front wings,sills,rear wings and boot were off , all most certainly would have been quicker if i hadn`t had to stop every 45 mins to allow the rain/hale
to pass , have a mate joining me tomorrow to take the *heavy* bonnet off , thats assuming it doesn`t pour down , feel a lot better after that bath

My previous Silver Z3 was going to be Silver as per the SWB that raced at Le Mans early 60s , this one is going to be Dark Blue or Red or Yellow , God where is WCA when you need some colour advice

Put the car on Shipley to get some quotes for transport and the first company that quoted said they would do the 250 miles on *Trade Plates* know I don't now all the rules and regs for Trade Plate use but I assume the car has to have lights

Thanks for all the comments , i will be sticking with the existing side window glass (rather than two pieces of sliding lexan) for the following reasons , pros , more secure than lexan , more weather tight than lexan , cons , will not be as the original . I am not having a exact replica made but something that can be used (not on a daily basis) but more than sunny Sundays . I dont have a garage/large shed (or front garden) available to work on the car , but probaly more important i do not have the skill to carry out the work reqd , also the car is going to be sitting outside the front of my house , this was one of the factors in picking the SWB shape rather than something like WCA`s convertible . If anybody has experiance of having a piece of glass cut to a specific shape for car use i would be interested in hearing , Geoff .

Good morning Mister Towed , the car will retain the Z3 doors but they will be reskinned , as for the interior , a 250 SWB style interior would be the best way to go , but for the sake of my wallet/sanity/reliability , the desire to drive it as soon as possible will take precedence , i will be replacing the seats with something more period and would look to use the seat material to have the door cards and possible the centre console/dash covered , the "sensible daily driver" term is exactly what i am hoping for , thanks Geoff .

Morning Steve i bought the two pices of glass (just in case) , not exactly correct but the Z3 M Coupe is so thin on the ground , and the price was so good that it seemed worthwhile , each new picture that Chris puts up makes the project look better and better , Geoff .
