I was intending to, then on reflection, suspected it may lead to injury!
To be honest, I have now given up the idea of an early Mot, and will plod on and finish the beast to the best of my ability, and the Mot will naturally come after that, with all things working present and correct.
Wiper arms and blades
After much measuring fiddling and swearing, I now know what size wiper blades and arms I need, and have taken Drummajors advice, and ordered what I need from Tex Automotive.
They will have to make the arms to special order, and I should have them by the middle of next week.
They will all be in stainless steel, which is something good, but I thought at over £66 pounds, that is an expensive way to remove water from the windscreen.
Or am I being tight-arsed? Is £66 a bargain to pay for wipers?
Anyhow, it is what I want, and what the car needs, so it must be.
Completenovice22, you are quite right which is why I paid so much, like you say our cars have to look the part.
Mick, the blades were only 8 quid plus Vat each, it was the arms I was stung on. To make it worse, the bloody arms are only 8 inches long anyway!
Hopefully this is a one-off, and I won't have to use the company again.

Headlight wiper blades! Would not have thought of that one. :-)
I just went out and measured them, they are short, they are 17 inches from the shaft centre to the end of the wiper blade.
But hey JagTVR, we are talking micro stuff here!
I just measured the one I "made up" as a pattern, and it is 13 inches long. So the MK2 ones would not do.
But, as I said earlier in this thread, I bit the bullet and paid through the nose to the tune of over 66 quid, and had some made in stainless steel, hopefully the perfect size for the car.
When they arrive next week, I will post pictures, watch this space...........

This is because my front garden looks like a cross between a Syrian refugee camp, and a scrap-yard, but hey, nobody is perfect, perhaps with the exception of my good fiend Mr Towed............

Today
Well we are now in June, and my build is no way close to finished.
When I tried to finish it by April, I realise it was not so much wishful thinking, but more like gross naivety on a massive global scale!
So today I decided to put in more hours, and make the bonnet rain channel a reality. I did this, and am pleased with the result, but it took over eight hours of intensive labour.
At least now, I am one day closer to completion, with yet another fiddly job done and dusted.

After I had finished, I realised that as a side effect, the bonnet opening which was a little on the bendy side, is now much more rigid and stiff.
So the supporting bars I had intended to fit are no longer required.
Its nice to have an unexpected pleasure of this sort, and it made my day.
It never ceases to amaze me, even now, how long these small mundane tasks take Paul, but as we both say, its one more step towards completion!
Wipers
Well, the long-awaited very expensive rip off wiper blades and arms finally arrived today, hoorah!
The blades were fine, unfortunately the wiper arms, who's dimesions I discussed in detail with the company concerned, were half an inch too short. Boooooooooh!
Having paid out so much and waited so long for the damn things to arrive, this was a bit like taking the piss.
Jesus H. Christ, what does one have to do,to get, not good service, but just ordinary normal service?
Talk about adding insult to injury and rubbing salt into wounds etc.
Anyway, I carried on with the wiper installation and have got to the point where, if I prod wires to the motor connections, the wiper arm I have on the wheel box temporarily will thrash about in the right way, which is good news.
I don't at this point much care where they work properly or not, as long as they satisfy the Mot, and look the part.
After all, the whole car is a fraud, so why should the wipers be any different?

Oh, in my grief and rage, I forgot to add that the company will make me some arms of the correct size, providing I send back the crap they sent me.
(They also will re-imburse the postage incurred)

Well, my triumph of yesterday was short-lived, a friend of mine came round to see the car, and I proudly showed him how the wiper now was working and watched in horror, as the arm hit the steering wheel, jammed up and ceased to function!!
How I never had a mental breakdown I don't know, somehow he calmed me down and we stripped the motor out and down.
The drive cable had come loose from its crimped position on the
to and fro arm.
Drilled it out and brazed it back in, re-assembled the lot and now it works again.
Like he said, its better to happen now than a hundred miles from home on a rainy day?
For once, I was so peed off, I took no pictures, so you'll just have to use your imagination!!! :-)
Bumpers
I have thought a lot about bumpers for the car, almost right from the beginning of the build.
The going rate for a set from the companies that make them is a thousand pounds, yes £1000.
Totally out of the question for me, added to the fact that I have never been keen on the way they look on the original car.
I do not like the wrap-around rear bumper, which leaves nowhere to put the number plate, making it look like an afterthought, which it probably was.
And the front ones, to me at least, look to prominent, and ugly.
so my car will not look that way.
I have figured out a way to make my own, surprise surprise!
If I slice a pipe in half that had the correct curve, ( stainless of course )
I can make it a perfect fit.
I have done trial run with two pipes, but think maybe they need to be larger
diameter.
I should end up with four nice elegant bumpers, and still keep my grand in my pocket!

Well Bear, I've had a quick peek in that direction, and it would seem they come in all sizes from 4 inches wide up to about 9 inches.
I would need to see some 2 inch wide ones to start getting excited, are you aware if they come that narrow, as I haven't found any yet?
