Thanks Ian,

There's the rub as I don't want to badge it. So it will always look unfinished :(

Considering my skills that's a theme I am going for.

That said I should have something on the bonnet that isn't just a terrible paint job !

Thanks Paul. Hope I don’t feel the same. The car has moved about 300 yards in three months :)

Road Legal

So car passed its MOT Monday 4th June so now road legal.

All that remains is to:
Fit new stainless cat-back exhaust.
Fit new steering wheel as the Z3 wheel is terrible.
Clean interior
Get heater to stop being on hot all the time :)
Boot prop as mine is a chunk of wood.

drive it !

re-register as Tribute Kobra
reflect this on A-Plan insurance docs

drive it some more

Oh and Paul I was nervous as heck but all good now :)

Hi Lucky,

There didn’t seem to be. I was quietly confident as I had replaced brakes and suspension in the prep work. I was most concerned about emissions truth be told. But he got it hot enough to pass no problem.

A lot still depends upon the tester I guess. I assume have the view that if it passes that’s great.

Hopefully the ones that like the new failure mechanisms are the ones to avoid. If you know which ones they are :)

I took my daily drive in the week before to a different tester. I knew one tyre was on the verge so ordered new ones to be fitted there. They failed it on the tyres then retested after they fit them .... I would have done it the other way around but hey what do I know,

Puts up their failure rate, VOSA don't like an MOT station that has a too high a pass rate.[/QUOTE]

Wow 3 months on and I have done FA to my Kobra. Except for fitting a temp boot prop that I used a too long screw for and placed star crack in boot lid. FFS.

I was offered a temp contract with paying work so had to leave the car for some time. I missed all of July and August driving opportunities but I will find a way to catch up.

Anyway one milestone is that I sent the necessary paperwork away to the specialist section on the DVLA and two weeks later new V5 with
Make: BMW Tribute Kobra, Model: .
I had asked for Tribute Kobra be placed against the model category but happy enough with the result to not change it now.
All I need to do now is register new plate against the car and get working on the last touches before paint shop.

Hi Paul,

At least our V5s are in step. As to what colour that’s up for discussion again.

I’m looking for a paint shop currently so will discuss colours at the time of quotations

Latest pics

So have done a little work to max the Kobra. Have tried to sort out some of the bodywork challenges but not great at it. I have taken out the dip in the radius on right side of the boot lid. Not great but gives the body shop a head start.

Here are a few pics of the jaunt out to an arboretum that is close ish to where I live

thanks for the positive response :)

I am going underslung exhaust as side pipes on a Z3 are a bit of a faff to say the least.

Last matt black pics before paint

So this is version 1.4 or 1.5 I cannot remember. I have just spent the last couple of days removing the matt black solvent based paint so that it can get it's proper colour.

It won't be purple though. I have decided on a resale colour. Not that I am goin to sell it. I mean a colour that would be easier to deal with than metallic purple.

Last pics show the grill in place like a 289 style front. I am getting there

Latest update on the Kobra build.

I sent (mad) max off to the paint-shop finally in November and here are some pics of it before paint.

As I had rattle canned in matt black for the summer that had to come off again. It took a bit of elbow grease and sanders but got there.
