May 2013

Haven't got the wheels yet, but from the pictures on eBay they do look similar. Nice to know there is someone out there who can make adapters. Think I might need spacers as well as I have no idea what the offset of these wheels is. 15" diameter and 7" width should look suitable meaty on the car though.

Going to be a strange experience getting tyre with tubes. Luckily my son works in a garage so I shouldn't have a problem getting the right thing.

Okay, what's going on here? This is the rear panel extender fitted directly onto the inner bumper and it sits too low.

Ignoring my rear end problems (Oooh, Matron!) first, very basic, dry fit on the front after much cutting, swearing, worrying and comments such as "Should have bought a Mk1" from my ever helpful wife.

Excuse the cockeyed bonnet, that will be pulled into place by the locking pins.

Much happier with the shape around the wheel arches.

Cheers Tony, need all the encouragement I can get, although I didn't think I'd get the front end to a point where it looked half decent and it's nearly there so I'm sure the back will be a soluble.

Decided to use the rear lights I got from a local scrap yard. Think vertical rather than horizontal looks better.

Fog and reversing lights going to be hanging from the bottom.

Getting close to the end of the dry fit. Does anyone who's done the Mk2 have some pictures of the relief cuts on the front to fit the wings? There some of the rear wings on the Mk2 build thread but not the front.

A50 - have to do some work on the bayonet adapters as their a bit rotten and have to replace to cotton braided wires. My son asked me what the funny stuff coming out of the lights was when we took them off the car at the scrappy, he'd never seen cotton braided cables before despite being in his 3rd year as an apprentice mechanic.

101 uses for a broken step ladder:

No 1. Use it as additional supports for a the rear end of an MX250 convertible

But the you don't see it when the rear is fitted so who cares.

Managed to get the front seriously low. Might have to shim it out to raise it a bit.

Thanks for looking Chris. Between this and the pics the German guys have posted I should be okay.

Finally bit the bullet and added the wing vents. Took some courage to cut the kit as I've never done anything like this before but quite pleased with the result.

Added the vents into the other side today

and fitted the A50 rear lights (although not wired in yet)

Anyone know what colour this Ferrari is?

16 Jun 2013, 11:04pm General Update
Found it - it's Rosso Barchetta. Ferrari still use it today - looks like I've found my colour.

Stupid question of the day but is 13amp household electrical cable okay for extending the wiring for the lights?

Thanks guys, it was the multi-strand stuff I was thinking of. Time for a bit of soldering...

July 2013

Made some good progress this weekend. Tail lights re-wired with more appropriate cable and number plate lights fitted.

Indicator/side lights fitted and head lights re-wired.

Windscreen washers fitted.

Wings cut and screwed into place

They're certainly Morris replica ones, whether off a Moggy or not I don't know. Need something with side lights as the head lights I got don't have any. The only concern I have is how well hidden the indicators are. Need to put some decent repeaters down on the end of the front wings.

Quick question, are you guys fitting the mesh into the various vents before or after painting?

August 2013

Made some good progress this week. Finally plucked up the courage to put the relief cuts into the rear end to make the convertible kit fit the Mk2 - had to make a few more than appear to have been needed in the hardtop.

and fitted the side repeaters

They're off a Renault Megane!
