The car has now had two coats of high build primer which showed up a few flaws which we missed these have now been stoppered flatted and re sprayed.
I am hoping for nicer weather tomorrow to apply the top coats
Hmmm my apologies you are right i don't know what happened there the photos I took seem to have vanished into the either.
Never mind I will post some of the finished paint job in the next day or two.

Finished the painting late last night there are a few small runs but nothing major I will leave it a few days to fully cure then start on butting it all back together.
I do have a small confession to make I didn't spray it myself my nephew volunteered and as he has sprayed a half dozen or so in the past who was I to refuse his kind offer.

I have started putting it all back together some of the lights are in place.
For some reason the doors and boot lid don't line up any more incredible the difference a coat or two of paint makes! also the boot lid support bracket which is/was bonded on decided to un-bond itself twice
I am looking into other bonding materials as I don't want to drill a hole in the lid and bolt it in place.
It should look a bit like this when they are fitted properly

I finally managed to get the boot support bracket to bond using a two pack epoxy, I didn't have any tiger seal left doh.
The windscreen is in place but not fixed yet I have made some brackets, bent twisted and drilled. Rubbish photo sorry.
I actually made three of these but drilled the first one before bending and twisting needless to say the holes didn't line up school boy error.
As they will be in full view I had better make a good job of painting them.
I managed to get a bit more done this week. The chrome covers for the wiper boxes didn't fit do made up some new ones from ally and inner tube rubber for the seals.
looking much better now.
the washer jets have also been fitted I had to tap a thread in the Fiberglas as it was too thick to attach the locating nut.
I also made a third attempt at the interior mirror top mount.

I have made some card templates for the door screens and am waiting for the perspex and aluminium to arrive.
The perspex arrived this week for the doors I used masking tape to protect it when cutting with a jigsaw and for marking out I had to be very careful as I only had one shot to get them right.
I also bought new blades for the jigsaw just to be sure.
they were drilled and temporarily fitted with cleko's (is that how you spell it?)
They still need some trimming and then I have to find some edging for them and a alloy strip for the bottom edge hopefully it will all work out ok
I made some alloy strips from 1.2 alloy sheet and shrunk them to shape the first un-drilled one i shrank too far and is useless three attempts later I managed to have two good ones.

I found some alloy effect edging but it wouldn't bend around the curve at the rear top of the perspex so I had to angle them like this.
Not sure if its better or worst any opinions?
Thanks for the input gents I will consider all opinions then ask the wife what i am allowed to do. doh!
hand brake gaiter
Plan A I failed miserably to make a leather handbrake gaiter it could be something to do with the fact that i am useless on a sewing machine so I decided to try to make one from alloy. Plan B made some templates and cut the alloy.
But I don't like it too big and bulky The whilst reading the thread by Lancelot on vintage handbrakes i thought that looks a lot better I'll see if I can make something similar.

Plan C It won't be the who handbrake assembly just a similar looking cover.
So far so good a lot simpler with only two alloy sides and some spacers polish it up and drill some holes for effect

I almost finished the hand brake cover this weekend I clamped the two half's together then marked out and drilled the holes.
I also made a aluminium cover for the top and some brackets.
The cover just clips on I have to decide whether to just leave it polished, drilled and polished or covered with vinyl
I just need to polish it and decide which root to take with the cover?

Ok gents you persuaded me polished no holed it is.
I decided to make a mk2 version of the top cover which looks a little better.
but then decided the open ends at the bottom may vibrate or rattle so I made a mk3 veraion.
so what do u think mk1 or mk3 ???

I didn't get much done this weekend I only sorted out the head restraints the Velcro wasn't working very well so I fitted a neodymium magnet which seems to work very well.
Jobs a good one. The gear-stick gaiter now looks a bit limp compared to the handbrake so I will have a go at making an alloy gate? I am planning on going to the Malvern auto-jumble on the 24th hopefully I will be able to pick up the last few bits I need to finish the car
