Guess you've all heard how good the VAG PD engine is by now :eusa_clap:

, wonder if anyone has thought of putting this in a kit-car :eusa_eh:

I went to the Autosport show and there's a raft of companies now specialising in diesel upgrades and some of the figures look immense.
Just wondering what 300lb/ft torque would look like in something weighing
600KG :icon_idea:

I'd be looking at the 1.9PD in a seven type car. Has anyone done this :icon_question:

Peugeot did 2 concept cars (drivable) ACES an SPADES one was their 2.2 petrol the other the 2.2 hdi both with 180bhp but the diesel with masses more torque. The driver from Car said that once he'd got used to the fact that this sports prototype was a diesel and had to change lower down the revs, that he'd have the diesel as the torque made a difference.( not to mention the 50 mpg it returned during the test). :eusa_think:

When a diesel can sound, and rev, like a tuned V12, then I'll consider one.

Didn't someone build a diesel Quantum a few years back?

Westfield did a turbo diesel version a few years back as well. Can't remember if it was just a promotional vehicle or an actual build option.

but a diesel kit car is still way more preferable than an electric kit car :eusa_naughty:

anyhow torque isn't really the key in a very light car IMHO... a very powerful diesel engine in a light car would be... wheelspin-revlimiter-change gear-wheelspin-rev limiter-change gear etc.......

There are plenty of diesel Quantums about and owners enjoy their cars very much. Recently we have a QSC track day where one diesel owner had a lot of fun on the track.

There is a lot of development going into diesel engines at the moment and their performance is coming along very well so I personally think it's a good idea to see something different in a kit car, but the engine must suit the car. A powerful Quantum Saloon Turbo Diesel make a lot more sense than a Turbo Diesel Dax Rush!

diesels

When you've been driven around Oulton park by a nutter in a BMW 330D shredding tyres in one lap, you'll realise that diesel kit cars are going to happen one day! I'd swop my kitcar engine (30 yr old 2279cc vauxhall petrol) for any modern diesel, an Audi V6 TDi chipped to 250bhp would be nice, or how about that VW 10 cylinder jobby.....hmmmm now thats got me thinking.
