Having fired up just b4 xmas I am sorting the exhaust system.I have planned on two side mounted exhausts, but these will be supplied from pipes under the car ,not thru the side louvred panels.Anyone got a suggested supplier, and any idea were to purchase different bents and lengths of pipe? Cheers

Personally I would avoid custom chrome, that's part of the reason I've build my own exhaust.

Thanks Patrick;have thought of using a cobra replica side exhaust,just bringing one pipe put from the underside of the car.Any thoughts?

Personally I am not to keen on side pipes. Having had one on a previous kit the problem is you soon get pretty fed up of that noise in your ear the whole time. I would use a rear exit every time. You could try the TR6 rear box setup that I am using if you wanted to go the rear exit route. Just needs 2 straight pipes and the TR6 rear box - very simple.

I have been following the pictures of your set up, and Patricks.I am worried re ensuring the sva rules on fire safety with the tank above it, and about clearance below the e30 trailing arms.

BMW's have the exhaust right up next to the tank with heat shielding.

I think with sufficient shielding it will be fine - I plan on getting some of this:

I can't find anything specific regarding this on the SVA.

Clearance to the tailing arms are fine on mine, but the back is really low due to me using coil overs.

Thanks patrick, and robin, I am being slowly converted to rear set up....have been looking at MGF and Mr2 back silencers on ebay...I wonder would this fit?

There's no reason those wouldn't work - the only thing you need to watch out for it that the input pipe(s) are not smaller than the stock size for you engine or you'll end up choking it.

The mufflers I went for are straight through glass packs which do result in a louder than stock exhaust, but very free flowing.

The main rule is the bigger the muffler the quieter, and the more internal baffles the quieter. The trade off is baffles = less flow = less power. So its a balance between sedate and power - I went for best possible power (with a bit of show factor) with mine and I'll probably get a slapped wrist at SVA time unless I plug it up some how.

I had my (stainless) TR6 box lying arround from a previous project so it was free. Apparently they are quite expensive now - but still cheaper than buying something that doesn't fit!
