Let's Get Together - 2007

12 Dec 2006, 5:41pm
Had a thought today.

Now I've finished me car and the weather is too c**p to drive it I started thinking about next years shows.

I reckon there are enough exi's running around now (or will be by early 07)to have a proper gathering at one of the shows....perhaps Stoneleigh....arrange our own area for exi's.....show the rest of the crowd what they are missing..... and have a 'proper' get together....gazebos....BBQ the lot!

The challenge is to get at least 10 together...from memory there is:-

1) My orange one
2) Orange ex-demo
3) Silver ex demo
4) Dylan's blue one
5) 'New' silver car Marlin have just sold on their site
6) Black Turbo (ex-biker?)
7) Yellow Which Kit build
8) Brian's blue one
9) Grey turbo (pics on gallery)
10) Limpabit....come on John get building!
11) Blue r type (part built pics on gallery)
12.....

Who have I missed?

Stoneleigh is probably the first show that would be suitable (6th / 7th May) and it's centrally located to allow North & South to get there without too many fuel stops!

What d'ya think?

Please add replies / comments to this thread and we'll see what we can get organised.

Mine's a 1.6 standard - unless someone wants to donate a turbo????

It should be ready March/April 07.

Have a look at this thread:
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/forum/showthread.php?t=919

Looks like Stoneleigh will be an ideal place to meet,5exi builders and Madabout members.

All we need is John to provide a 'Club' meeting / show area.

See ya there!

Hi Rich.

What a good idea. I'll be going to Stoneleigh whether the car is finished or not. (I really am working flat out at the weekends). It's a great show.

No 6 above is Andy's black turbo.

The grey turbo is John(Marlinturbo) at Taunton.

There's also Trev (tomboy5exi) Orange Turbo.

The other good show is Donnington and I hope to be able to take mine on the track.

Cheers

get together

Count me in Rich,
It would be nice to see a parade of 5exi's at one of the shows. I felt a bit lonely at Donington. See you soon, hopefully.

I suspect I'll be going to Stoneleigh, so would be up for meeting up with fellow owners / builders. I won't have my car built by then, as finding time is a real struggle.

Just out of curiosity, what's the age range of known builders / owners? I'm 27.

Mine's a type-r, black, and I'm going to make a concerted effort to get mine built for mid to late 2007.

There's also Tony Gigg, Dorset based, who was one of the first to take delivery. I don't know the state of his build, but I'd be surprised if it's not complete, given when I saw it over a year ago, most of it was done. Tony's is a Rover t-series car, with an orange body.... I don't know what colour it's been sprayed though.

There's also SDMC001, Steve, who is building a k-series car.

That's a great idea, Rich. I'm hoping to have my type R finished by then too. It's likely to be yellow at that point, but turn blue at some point over the Summer :-)

Even if it's not ready, a trip to Stoneleigh to meet some other builders would be spot on.

Richard

Oh, and John - I'm 29. Interesting question actually: do you think the 5exi attracts a younger builder than the average kit? I consider myself just out of short trousers after all...
14 Dec 2006, 6:40am
There's also Ian (Merlinman) - 216 GTI Honda Twin Cam. Doub't he will be finished if he don't get out of bed. Poor Ian pulled his back out the weekend giving me a hand on mine. Ended up laid up in bed.

Get well soon mate.

Rich

My names Mark BTW.

Feeling a bit old today - at 38.

I wonder if we can get 10 cars together there?
14 Dec 2006, 10:25pm
Count me in for Stoneleigh - be good to meet up with you all.

For the record Mark - you're a mere stripling. I'll be err..... 55 come Christmas. Doesn't sound so bad if you say it quickly but I'll skew your age stats horribly. Male menopause or second childhood? - take your pick!

PS I'm getting 140 miles to the tankful - am I driving too slowly?
15 Dec 2006, 7:44pm
Thanks to all those who have posted on this thread.....I'm looking forward to the meet.

Anyone know who organises the Stoneleigh show so I can hassle them for a BIG area to display our superb cars!?

Also...anyone know the location and owners of the 'Which Kit yellow car' and the 'Silver ex-demo?'

P.S. ....to continue the age survey....I'm 36.

Rich,

I met the guy who owns the SIlver car at Exeter. I believe he lives fairly close by. Exmouth I think???

I'll definately be up for getting my black turbo to stoneleigh - I'll bring some extra BBQ coals and if you want me to organise some hot girlies in short skirts i can get these too... ! ! ! ! !

(survey continue'd - i'm 30yrs young)

Thanks - Andy
19 Dec 2006, 4:34pm
Hopefully that will be two black turbo's.:pray2:

For the record I'm 36 years old/young depending on mood.
19 Dec 2006, 5:10pm
Hot girlies would be good!!

Hiya guys, I'm another 5exi owner to add to your list. My 1.4 K-series orange car is now finally fully built and 100% road legal. Its taken ages to sort out all the forms and paperwork with the DVLA but I got the number plates made up and put them on last week. Just a little over two years total build time from when I first picked up the kit from Marlin. I'd definately be interested in bringing it along to stoneleigh or another show and meeting some fellow builders next spring. The bodywork still needs a massive amount of polishing and theres some general neatening up to be done and this would make a good excuse to get on and do it.

Also thanks to everyone whos puts posts on the forum. I've not put many on myself during the build but the ones I've read proved very useful at times. Just for the record aswell I'm 23 (hence the 1.4 for insurance) so definately the car does attract young people.

Regards

Andy C
