What oil did you chaps use in the diff and the gearbox? I've drained both of mine, and I'm planning on refilling them before the chassis arrives next week - A much easier job when they're on the bench and I have a bit of room, rather than doing it when they're bolted onto the car...
The resident oil guru on e30zone seems to recommend 75w-90 for the 'box and LS90 for the LSD. Have any of you departed from that? Also, how much of the stuff am I likely to need? IIRC, the diff needs topping up to level with the uppermost plug. I don't know how much the gearbox needs - apart from I'm sure it needs more than it had in it!

I used Comma 80W-90 gear oil in the gearbox and Castrol Differential EP90 in the diff., but mine is not LSD. The Comma gear oil is a bargin at only £2.09 a litre in Wilkinsons discount store and it is API-GL4 spec as per the original BMW handbook. You need about 1.2 litres for the gearbox and about 0.9 litres for a standard diff. (Not sure about LSD)

I used Sikolene Silktran Syn 5 for both LSD and gearbox from http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ - both Simon and Guy are very knowledgeable chaps and can recommend what you need based on engine, age and type of driving
Thanks guys - I have 3 bottles of Silktran winging there way direct from the Cornish oil mines.
Oh - and big hand to the chaps at Woolaston BMW. Went in to get a couple of new diff plug washers and expected to get charged a quid a throw (or something equally exorbitant). Chap came back with them, I asked how much - and he said 'On the house mate'.
