I am getting ahead of myself here but I will soon be installing the scuttle top and I wondered what everyone else had used for demister vents. The scuttle top is very curved and I can't see the standard vents (like fiitted to a mini) fitting as they are straight and don't look like they will bend too easily...

Demister is only required for SVA if you have fitted a windscreen.If you go thru SVA without screen, you can fit it after and not fit a demister;all down to personal choice!

Could you cut the hole and then use bendable chrome trim (I think CBS sell this sort of thing?)

I thought I would resurrect this thread, again.

Has anybody got a solution for fixing the demister vent pipes from the heater to the scuttle?

Just a tiny slit in the scuttle top and the plastic trimmed to match. Dunno yet, that's something to deal with after SVA

I was thinking about moulding something into the underneath of the scuttle - but haven't got any further than that. Perhaps a 2" plastic pipe cut in half lengthways. You could then put the slots in the scuttle for the hot air anywhere you like within the width.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone out there has actually fitted any demister vents in a Sportster?

I need to find some chrome or polished stainless vent surrounds that can be formed to match the curve of the Sporsters scuttle.

Any ideas or experience welcome,

I've been taking another look at this today. I've got the fan tail vents off a mini but my speedo/tacho are in the way and the scuttle is curved, so not easy to fit these.
I've had a go at cutting a curved slice off the side of a piece of 40mm waste pipe but there is not much space between the dashboard and the windscreen itself so not sure yet if this will fit and a couple of the dash mounting bolts are just where you want the vent??

The plan is to glue and bond this under the demister slot. The 90 degree bend has to fit between the Speedo and other gauges on the dashboard.




I cut one of the demister slots today. (what a messy job!)



I've also shortened the two dashboard fixing bolts so hopefully they will fit OK.
(P.S. the holes you can see here are for the wiper spindles.)

Looking good I've got a set of vent I bought from CBS a good while ago, they are metal funnel type things. We'll be looking at putting them in soon as well.

Have you found a suitable location for the windscreen washer bottle? My engine bay is so full you couldn't get a matchbox in there... I seem to remember one of the Marlin built cars had it located in the boot!

Hi Robin,
not really looked at that properly, yet.
I've seen one in the boot and one down by the exhaust manifold which didn't seem a good idea but I guess it stops it freezing up in the winter.
I hope it'll fit in here behind the alternator opposite the oil dip stick?

I was thinking under the header tank might be a good place

unfortnately that space is already taken with my fuel filter!

I've added some fine stainless steel mesh to the back of the vent trims.
It stops anything dropping down the slot and looks really smart.



In case you are wondering where I got the mesh its "VIVARIUM reptile stainless steel mesh "

It look great, the mesh really finishes it off nicely. The surrounds are from a mini ?

Looks great Peter. Is there a lip / higher rolled edge on one side of the chrome surround? It looks like it from the pics.

I only ask because if so, wouldn't that need to face the windscreen rather than the dash, to deflect the hot air onto the screen rather than the cockpit?

Yup, they are mini vent surrounds from minispares.



No, the surrounds edges are the same and essentailly flat, but I can see why say that. It's just an illusion of the camera angle.

I bit more progress on the demister vent tubes.........



Here is an overall shot. The aluminium tangs are to hold it in place pending a full fibre galssing at some point in the future.



Of course, its only the digital camera that can see it like this! i had to bond it in place by feel.

The heat from the radiator should keep the washer fluid nice and warm

It's fixed in place but now i've got to find a route for the pipe and cables back through the bulkhead..........

Looks like it was made to measure....

Won't be able to put mine there though - occupied by the air filter.
