Good choice and very interesting kit, I would think of it as a cheaper alternative to the Sylva R1ot.

I like the concept of this kit, it's the styling that makes me wonder.

It would take very little to make it look better...........if you need any help let me know

Italo - we agree on something!!! - I saw it as an alternative Riot. I also like what he has done with the canted engine. Mine will have all GRP bodywork

Currently stripping the main donor - Metro GTi of 1992 vintage. I collect the kit at the end of July. I am also running a blog on it.

Would be nice to have it finished for Totalkitcar Live in October......:icon_eek:

We do agree that sometimes we have different opinions, but that make good conversations.:fencing:

Will be following your blog, and if you need to alter the front end styling let me know, in my opinion, that is the weakest part of this new kit.

I pretty much like the rest of the car, and the canted engine idea, is a neat touch of engineering .

Good choice of kit, do you have an idea of a complete build price?

I quite like the front end.....knew the peace would not last long between us! .....:nono: As you say it creates good conversations.

However would be interested to see the renderings of your pencil....

I am buying all three packs of the road kit which costs just over £3K, so aiming to build it for around £4K.

Doing my usual of making as much use of the donor as possible. I am using a Metro GTi with the 16v, multi point injection engine, which provides most of the pieces I need in one package. With what I have sold in spares it only stands me in at £100 so far.

I will follow your build through your blog, and the project sounds like a cracker, and if the buid price is met, this should be fantastic news.

If you can build it at that price, Onyx does have a winner in its hands, and could be formidable competition for Sylva.

I downloaded some picture of the mongoose, but they are very few and of very bad quality, do you have something better to show ?

I will jot something for you, just very simple design tweeking , nothing more.

Not at the moment, but will see what I can get when I collect the kit. Will be taking lots of pictures for reference.

There's going to be a 5 page feature in the September issue of Kit Car.

I agree that Onyx have finally hit upon a winner - even as it is. If they improve its looks; they'll widen its appeal.

IMO their success with this particular product lies in their making the product affordable whilst making it less ugly than what's gone before.

Well I have picked it up! Chassis is a nice piece of work.

Italo - do you want to get your pencils out and do me a design for the scuttle section......would like to incorporate an aeroscreen/mini screen. It is currently in curved aluminium. Could not get you any better images as David Golightly has dismantled the prototype.

A very rough fast 10min. sketch for you.........and why did he dismantle the prototype?

That looks first class Italo :thumb: Onyx would be onto something if they made it look like that.

Thanks John :), just a very rough sketch, but will work on a more detailed rendering of the Mongoose, as soon as I get better pictures!

Nice front Italo.....might have to be my second version as it is a little intricate with all the vents. Do like the screen

David did tell me why he was working on the prototype.....but I have forgotten! Its his developement mule so I guess it was for new parts. When I say dismantled mainly missing bodywork and cooling system - it was still on its wheels an drivetrain in place.

Will get you better pictures when I can!!!!

working on another sketch.........:)

Italo

When sketching bear in mind my roll bar supports go backwards rather than forwards......and my nose cone/engine cover are already sprayed yellow......
6 Aug 2006, 6:55pm
Trevor,

Yellow sketch for you.....the black colouring is a metallic net( fishnet design), instead of the air vents of the earlier sketch....

I'm off on vacation, but will be back soon with new stuff

These are my other preliminary rough skecthes, using the same chassis but with different designs...

I'm off on vacation will be back soon....

I would like the "Extreme R" Mongoose for myself.....:)
