Copy cat idea!....

Ever since Scotty posted pictures of his mini VW ive always found myself looking out for them. I did have a look at the jap import subaru sambars but they seem a lot of money for what they are, around £4/£5k. And because they have a tiny 650cc engine and 3 speed autos it put me well off them.

They do look pretty cool though.....

This is what I've bought.....

And i have found a supplier of a full kit to fit the subaru sambar for £750, i spoke with the guy and he says with a little bit of messing about it will fit the hijet.

Scotty did you come across any problems?

And does anyone know where i can get some rear lights as similar to the origional vw campers as possible that dont cost a fortune?....

I know this is a tribute part of the forum but i know this is the most used section!

Does the hijet have its engine over the back wheels or mid like the Suzuki supercarry.

The engine is under the front seats and are 3 cylinders with a 993cc, they are really reliable motor and perform well

The 1 ive just bought is a 1.3 petrol.

Quite tempted like the style. Saw quite a few when I was in Weymouth. Different colours and had the full front and rear bumper

I was tempted to go the other way and actually end up with a camper big enough to camp in comfort in

That gets my vote too. I'd want one I could stand up in. Along with the shower, loo, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine.
And a Z300S on davits at the back.

Just checked my driving licence and I am clear for 7.5 tonnes or 12tonnes with trailer some you never know...

This was something I was interested in doing but when I showed the other half was told NO:yield: but in the meantime i found a supplier in England that has 2 kits for sale. His email is minidubs@talktalk.net and his name is Darren and the kits are 500 pound is what he quoted me

Nice project! It'll certainly overcome a load of the rusting issues and undoing-bodges-by-previous-hippy-owners issues that I've had with SWMBO's Type 2!!

It would seem that anything VW camper related adds a couple of numbers to the price, so if you do find anywhere then please let me know! :)

I'm pretty sure there's something in the law about towing a working vehicle - apparently the motorhome with the smart car on tow isn't allowed!
You may have to disable your towed vehicle?
