I may be selling my car soon but unsure on price. It's more or less finished, needs to be sprayed but other than that just a few small bits of detailing but that would be down to personal preference. It's MOT'd until April and a good solid 2.8 BMW under the Z300s body work. Any suggestion on rough price would be good. Due to a 40 year back problem I'm finding it harder and harder to fettle with cars and as such loosing interest.
This is a difficult one as yours is the first to the 2nd hand market as far as I am aware. This means that you are in effect setting the price for the car. I would suggest that you set a confident price as the MX5 models are moving up I think the BMW based models should be a step above them.
Look at the fancy advert that bloke wrote for his Mazda and got £16,000 for. Make sure you send the right message in any advert you write. Feel free to nick any bits from my parody of his advert (on a thread here somewhere).
It might be worth getting a quote for the paint job and then offering it for sale either unpainted for X or painted in the buyers choice of colour for X + quote.
The actual price is down to you but given the MX250 prices I would say £15K buy it now and £10K reserve. Use the first round of bidding to judge the interest and adjust as required. It is always easier to lower the price than raise it.
Also be sure you want to sell it, I was surprised when I turned down a semi serious offer of £12,000 for mine the other day. It was from a guy buying a MGA from the little garage at Beaulieu who thought the Z300S would make a perfect accompaniment for the MGA as they could use it for the longer trips and as a more day to day vehicle.
Its hard to say with an unfinished car. Sometimes you will hardly get your money back. It might be worth having it painted then try it with a classified ebay ad at a very high price . If you don't get any offers relist with an auction format starting very low.
I think you'd get the best price by getting it painted and then advertising it in a high end car mag. Like WCA and his MGA buying acquaintance- you have to be moving in the right milieu- ie the people with high disposable income who don't trawl eBay or Gumtree looking for toys.
It might even be worth placing it with a (gasp) dealer (spits) who would put it in a showroom. Yes, they'd screw you for a percentage but the higher price would offset that.
Keep turning up to Goodwood, Brooklands and Beaulieu and hope someone bites. Depends how quick you need to shift it. General opinions seems to be to get some paint on it though
Please hold out for a good price so Ian and I don't get stuffed at resale. It is bad enough with the price Nubodi are knocking them out for.
Ta for replies, I'm in no particular rush to sell as I enjoy driving it around. I think if I had it sprayed it would make me more reluctant to sell, a few people have actually complimented my choice of colour, battleship grey :-)
I would be quite happy to get what it's cost to date. I'll set about doing an advert for it and bung it up on ebay.
