Forgot to change the clocks so woke up early this morning

Well due to the fact I had a senior moment with the clocks I did in fact have enough time to get to Brooklands. Met up with two fellow Z300 owners, WCA and IanA, didn't get to see Ian's car as parked somewhere else. Cars got quite a bit of interest, most positive, heard a few negative comments but that's to be expected on a kit car being displayed next to a the likes of lightweight E- types and Bentley Blowers.
Good selection of cars down there will try and post a few photos later

Yes, never been to Brooklands before so instead of heading for the Campbell Gate on Caenswood Hill via Wellington Way, I ended up in the public car park by the visitor entrance. Good to see WCA and to meet Andy who's on the right here talking to a Cougar owner.

If not real, it was certainly authentic in every visible detail.
There were two Deloreans there and what was on ITV2 when I got home? Yes BTTF I, II, and III which I'd not seen before.

He has tidied it up since Wilton House.

I met the owner and sat in the car about three years ago. If looked a bit shabbier then.

He didn't mention it being a replica then but did point out all authentic Ferrari bits.

On a side note, I was chatting to one of the Brookland big wigs, Vice President of something, who had a 1930s Bentley there. He had been stubble racing in it the day before because he kept his 'Nash for proper racing. The Bentley was pretty filthy as stubble racing is racing the car around a field of stubble after harvest. We talked about real and replica and he was quite revealing about the authenticity of many of the show cars. Apparently you mustn't use the phrase 'Triggers broom' within earshot of the owners.

Original cars with every bit replaced. He said my car was more authentic than at least half a dozen of the cars on display. Quite an unexpected and refreshing conversation. I am sure if I had a few classic Bentleys and Nashes we would have talked longer.

Anyway, nice to meet a couple of the Tribute gang and generally a good day.

I did look around the exhibits in the car sheds and noticed that quite a few had huge gaps in their histories. "Broken up for parts" and a later owner who "traced all the old parts" - yeah right !!!

"original " is an interesting term if the car has had one or more rebuilds.

Just out of interest though Lister cars have made new Lister Jaguars,
using the original tooling and they have even brought back the original craftsman that built them.

Yes, couldn't be more so- what an operation. Gorgeous cars- even in Fezza Red.

Not keen on the steering column on those cars though- shades of the old Healey 3000 spear pointing at your chest!!!

I think these are 'the same as the originals' as opposed to 'copies of the originals'. The originals in my opinion are those that were built in the original period they were raced. These are new.

It is a bit pedantic and probably only worth discussing if I could actually afford and 'original' or a 'new build original' but a similar example might be the 'new' Mk1 Escort bodies. These are the same as the ones built back in the day so are they original? I would say no, they are the same as the originals.

Fine lines being drawn here... a bit like first editions of books or initial then re-pressing of vinyl records.

In this case- Lister cars from Lister Ltd so it's a genuine Lister.

I once owned a 1961 Ford Anglia 105E. I could tell you everything that changed during the production run through to 1967.They were built on the same production lines by the same people. So was the 1967 car an original Anglia or a copy of the original or same as the original? This one could run and run !!!

I'd not heard of the Escort bodies issue- same tooling, same presses? But no- being copied in China- not original at all.

I agree about the fine lines and the changes during production life.

I would say a 50 year gap in the production run was enough to distinguish between the 'original' Lister Knoblies and the new ones. Both sets are genuine Listers though

Probably not as worried about damaging them as the guys driving the originals :-)
