Wanted - JC Midge plans & build instructions

Hi all

Hope I don't break any rules asking for the plans and build instructions for the JC Midge.

The Mk1 will be ok as I am looking really for pointers on how to build a special on a Alvis TA14 chassis so looking for cockpit dimensions , materials and sizes etc , re-body no BIVA to pass.

Last year on eBay their was a company\ person selling midge plans for the new midge built on a Suzuki SJ i think they where in Derbyshire I have also seen midge plans on eBay. Ed

I thought that also , I do have a search running on Ebay.

I have also contacted the Secretary of the Midge Owners & Builders Club so they may have some leads.

Hi Paul
I would have thought that the Midge would have been a bit small for an Alvis chassis. I would start from scratch. Put a board on the chassis ,put seat on board, move seat and steering until you can reach the pedals and gear lever. Build car around those measurements. Simples! I have some plans somewhere in here, if I can find them. Give me a shout, Dave.

Yes and No ?

Well I was interested in what sizes of timber was used and the general method of construction rather than doing a direct copy of it.

I now have the build instructions for the MK1 but no paper templates.

However the Alvis is probably not a suitable basis for this project and so will be sold when the V5C gets back.

I would have thought an Alvis would make a beautiful special. Done properly it would not be a quick easy job but look up some of the 60's and 70's rebodied Bentleys. It would be a coach building job not a ply box job. I'm not being rude about the Midge, I built a Locust. Good luck with it.

Since buying the Alvis I found out most of the specials have serious engineering work done on them i.e

Rack and pinion steering
hydraulic brakes
moving engine back 12"-18"
fitting overdrive etc

much more work than I want , so it is best if I sell the Alvis as is and pursue other plans either back to building a special on a 109" LandRover or buying a NG TA.
