I'm looking for an old school steering wheel, you know the type wood and chrome. can anyone shed light on what size wheel & boss I should be looking for having a working horn would be a plus on the steering wheel

I bought a boss from Ebay. (The wheel I bought at an auto jumble) It's for the smaller 6 hole pattern wheel so I will need an adapter made if I decide on an older looking wheel.
It wasn't great quality but for £30 it was ok.

Horn was complicated so we're going to run new wires to a button on the dash.

Centre bosses not fitting wooden steering wheels is a long tradition. I even ordered a double drilled boss that fitted botht he standard size

I have been thinking about this for some time...

With the huge number of simple remote control devices in out lives, what's the problem with making or improvising a remote connection from the steering wheel hub to a remote receiver behind the dash which would operate the horn via a suitable relay.

If you have seven year old child they could probably do this in their sleep, most schools are doing this sort of thing regularly now. For me it's a bit of a challenge... I have made up an RF remote control for my cameras which allows me to for example photograph football behind goal action with a static camera from the half way line while I am photographing it with a second camera in my hand. If that's possible why not a signal from the steering wheel hub to the horn?

Should be possible for well less than 20 quid. Just need a seven year old with a soldering iron.

If that can be achieved reliably, why not a steering hub turn signal switch, tickover adjustment and perhaps an advance-retard adjuster, just like the real old time cars used to have. ~Perhaps that's being silly... hwell:

Thats on the same lines as my suggestion on Andy S's swb thread about using any dials gauges and warning lights you like the look of on an entirely dummy dash and have all the info the engine and cars computers have to offer on a hidden android tablet complete with head up windscreen display for speed and revs with shift light if you liked this is very do able for well under £100 using a Bluetooth OBD2 sender and either free or a very cheap app,on any car after 2001, it could also be a hands free phone and media player through a £10 amp.and sat nav with upbto the minute traffic and journey times.
In the world of throttle by wire and even steering by wire in some cars I don't think a horn by wire should be too tricky.

now that's a nice bit of kit ejector seat would not work its a hard top although hmmmmmm. lol
