I have an interest in building a kit car and was wondering if anyone could help me. I know very little about car mechanics in general and would like to know if I would be able to build a kit car, or are my sights set too high?
I have thought that if I built a kit car that at the end of the process I would have a greater understanding about car mechanics in general, would that be right at the end of the build?
I have basic tools so would I need to purchase more tools to help with the build and are they expensive?
Is there a specific model a beginner should start with?
Is there anything I need to know about building a kit car in general? I have read moet of the information on this site, have read a few magazines and am currently reading a kit car book from the library.
You really need a knowledge of how a car works and how to fix one, or a helpful friend who does!!!
I'd start with a 'Seven' style car and to this end I would recommend [url]www.locostbuilders.co.uk[/url] (I hope that's OK to post, John) who can and will answer any possible question you may have.....
Best bet is to find someone locally who will show you what they are doing, preferably someone who hasn't finished yet!!
Thanks for the reply and I will check out the website. I know a few people who know about cars but I am looking to build the car and learn from the experience.
Can anyone tell me what a 'seven' stlye caris ? Can anyone provide photo or website links so I can see what this type of car is?
Also, when you buy a kit car do you get instructions to help with the build?
I now have an idea of where the starting point is so i will have a look around and find as much as i can about building a kit car and building a seven style car. The only the that puts me off this type of car thos is the lack of roof as te great british weather is always unpredictable!
