New rules for taxing a car on purchase

It may be small change in the whole build cost but it annoys me to give the DVLA double tax for the month in which you buy a car (the buyer taxes for the whole month and the seller can only claim a refund from the 1st of the next month). Has anyone found a way to overcome this?

Don't close the sale till the last day of the month. It is a stupid idea worthy of the idiots at DVLA.

but the rules say the new owner must tax the car before using it on the road so I think the best way for the new owner is to collect it on the 1st.

DVLA is a profit making organisation(?) They make money by ripping us off and cutting staff and services.
