Hi everyone, has anyone fitted the bullet style mirrors? I had an impulse and brought a pair. It's looks like they are not as simple a fix onto the door as I thought. I wondered if anybody had fitted them and how?
If your a fan of seing things that come from behind you whilst driving, id give them a miss. I mounted mine for show only I think because i cant see f''k all outa them!
Thanks for the advice, I've just read in the Mini forum that they are crap for seeing anything and you have to drill through the door from the inside to get them to fit. Anybody got any ideas about other mirrors for the MX?
It depends on the look your after. I have fitted old TVR style mirrors they are drill through the door. Also you have to fill in the recess for the old mirrors. My MX is a mk2 slightly diffrent style doors. The round mirrors are only 110mm round ,overtaking mirror is ok.Passenger side you don't see much, but is good enough for reversing.

I can't find any close up pictures of mine but the are just small round chromed mirrors on short stems. There is one whole through the door skin for a bolt to hold them on and another for a peg to keep the base in the correct position.
Not much adjustment in the mirror head but the drivers side is good enough to drive with. The passengers side is just a pretty ornament.
Thanks Peepsy/WCA I've got some off ebay that I've put on for the moment. I haven't driven the car yet so don't know if there any good. The quality isn't that good though. I've put the bullet ones I brought on ebay.
Cheap classic wing mirrors = plastic chrome and no visibility
Expensive classic wing mirrors = proper chrome and poor visibility
Authentic classic wing mirrors = pitted with patina and who cares as your car is taken everywhere on a trailer
Or, larger rectangular mirrors= expensive, don't look quite so good, but at least you can see some f**king thing with them.
That is what I am currently looking for, to eventually put on my car.
(So I can see potentially dangerous brain-dead bovines approaching!) WCA take note!!
From the internet - As a general rule, if a vehicle has them fitted as factory standard, they must be there and in a safe and usable condition, which is why classic cars are exempt as wing mirrors may not have been fitted originally.
. Obligatory mirrors are those that must be fitted and in working order to class a car as roadworthy, to pass and MOT and to be legal on public roads.
Obligatory mirrors are the interior mirror and the drivers-side exterior mirror
If you want to check the C&U regs, you need a driver's mirror, an internal mirror if it gives a view of the road, a nearside mirror if there is no internal mirror.
Looks like I've got to keep something that resembles a mirror then whether I can see anything out of it or not, although if they pass my car at the MOT with having black/silver number plates do you think they will let it pass without mirrors?
Thanks for the offer Landmannnn, I'm trying to stay as legal as I can, the rozzers round here don't like anything that doesn't conform. Can't wait til I get this car on the road again. I give it a week before I get pulled.

When I took my first car for an MOT the friendly tester advised that I shouldn't have 'fixed' the rusty chassis rails with newspaper and body filler because they were something he called 'structural'. Then he issued a pass.
It was a knackered Chevette I picked up for £30 with the idea of turning it into a track toy but someone offered me £100 for the numberplate so it needed an MOT to be reregistered.
