GT6 Engine Rebuild

9 Feb 2014, 7:01pm
Just bought a 1973 GT6 engine to fit into a navigator. The engine require a full strip and overhaul and may be a few mods on the way.
This is the stage i am up to at the moment.
Attachment “IMG_3992.jpg” from the original forum could not be reliably recovered.

Anybody fitted a mild race cam into a straight six, if so what and how has it preformed.

May change the carbs also so any advice welcome.

I am looking at using a type 9 gearbox for a fifth gear and reliability, may try and make the adapter plate if i can find a drawing online.

Hi Barry that does not sound good.

There's a thread some where on this forum on how to upload images, i am still having a few problems myself so i am afraid my advice may not be correct, you will find out that images are liked on this forum.

Sorry about the delay. We've got a 2ltr donk arriving mid next week and by all accounts it's coming with a spare dizzy. If it does I'll let you know

Engine now stripped and measured ready for the work to be done. The bores have been taken to there limit so if another rebore done then new wet liners required. The crank also has been ground but looks and measures to be ok. Rocker shaft and tappets need replacing as they are 2 tho over size.
One thing is its the later version engine so already has the bigger inlet valves and domed topped pistons.

Domed topped pistons with bore top recess for later type gasket.

Larger inlet valves before stripping the head down.

Pistons etc lined up and numbered ready for measurement.
