New to Kit Cars

10 May 2013, 10:43am
Hi all,
I am new to the idea of building a kit car and intend to do a few projects with my sons to fill there summer holidays etc. I was drawn towards a MR2 Ferrari etc but have been more geared towards an MX5 Mk1 GTO Automotive tribute lately.

Now i have a possible MX5 to purchase over the next few weeks, but i was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on starting, IE how difficult is it?, If i come unstuck am i in the right place here to ask for assistance?.

As far as i go, i am a hands on kinda guy and not scared to get my hands dirty with an OCD tendency towards doing think right and correct, however i am more of a biker so my knowledge of being able to take panels off cars etc is very limited

All information and advise would be greatly appreciated and will look forward to getting starting and becoming a regular on here in my new hobby.

Thank you in advance again

Your best bet is visit the manufacture to see the kit. Then visit some builders. That way you get a good idea of what's involved. Some even have build web sites to look at. Have a browse through the tribute section on this web site.

When I was choosing a kit, I knew my skill set limits. Did not want to start learning to weld, fibreglassing major amounts or spraying on
my pride and joy. Though did learn some skills along the way.

I've no experience of this sort of thing but I'm having a go. I've started a blog in the Tribute section (as have many others) so take a look and see how we are all doing.
