kit build for a wrx?

14 Feb 2013, 5:51am
Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum, I've been throwing around the idea of building a kit car on a donor subaru wrx my01 for a couple of years now. Thought I might jump on the forums and see if any one has some advice to offer. I have a tight budget, and am looking to build some kind of rat rod. I guess the main question is, has this been done before? where do I start? how much of the scooby will I be able to salvage for the job (the car is fully intact), will I be able to use the chassis? I know a lot of these questions come down to budget, but yeah. anywho. Thanks for the replies in advance.

Not exactly a rat rod, but have you seen the Murtaya?

That's the only kit I'm aware of that uses the bug-eyed scooby as a donor.

Alternatively, you could always build something on a type 1 beetle floorpan and use the boxer engine -

That would give you the option of a rat-rod look or a speedster body rather than the more modern look of the Murtaya.

Or you could adapt a Sammio (aka Ribble or Miglia) body to fit the Subaru running gear...

Now that would be something worth doing.

Good luck whatever you end up building. :)
