I have some history of Hot Rods and Kustoms in my past vehicle ownership. I hadn't been into that "scene" for some years, but this year's day trip to the Goodwood Revival, where I drooled over Lord March's bare metal 1932 Ford pickup Hot Rod, reminded me why I loved that style of car. I now had a hankering...
After talking to a friend about the rekindled interest he pointed me in the direction of a couple of guys in Bridport, quite local to our workshop. Jon and Russell at Hardy County Hot Rods (http://www.hardycountyhotrods.com) had just what I needed.
I have started to mount the panels on an unmodified 1970's Lotus Elite backbone chassis with cut down GRP floorpan. Wheels are TR3/6 steels (banded on the rear) and engine and gearbox will come from a Volvo 940 2.3 Turbo. I will be trying to fit a few hours in each week and hope to get the truck up and running in a "rough" form in the next couple of months.

Funny, I was viewing the pics on my phone. Read the first bit, looked at the pic and thought what has happened to the Lotus......read on further and there it is!!
Who would have though of putting that style of body on a chassis like that.

Managed to get a couple of hours on the truck on Saturday. The mock up was pulled apart, here's the Lotus "back bone" chassis for those who haven't seen one of these odd looking things!
A bit more trimming done to the old Lotus floorpan.
Once happy with the position of the cab a 4" gap between the bottom edge and the floor was filled with GRP sheet hot glued in position, bonding paste painted over all the joins and then glassed over with 2x900gsm layers of matt

No, they are old JAGO moulds owned by Hardy County Hot Rods (http://www.hardycountyhotrods.com). They also have the 32 Ford Sedan, 32 Sedan delivery, 32 Roadster, 34 Coupe and Gary's old chopped 32 pick up moulds.
I need to have something semi useable engine wise, as I want to drive it everyday, I love V8's but petrol is very expensive
Not much time to spend on my own projects at at the moment but due to the need for space at the workshop we needed to get rid of the Volvo estate that was to give up it's engine and gearbox for my truck. So out the came it's "guts" and were dropped into the truck's somewhat smaller engine bay.
A good fit apart from the lack of clearance for a radiator, not to mention the intercooler, the turbo sticking out of one side of the bonnet and the alternator out of the other!!!!!
...and heres my pick up. I have owned it so long I dont have any digital pics of it. Built the back in '97. 1275cc. 75bhp ish. Thought it was really fast until I got a gps speedo !

No, that ones not mine, its made from teak and holly faced ply! Good fun twist though. I have always fancied doing a sipper launch stern, but the Morris is a bit high.

After spending the day at Pendine Sands a coupla weeks ago watching hot rods racing down the beach, i really want one....they're just.....cool.
