hose problem

Had a major shock today the plastic hose supplied by marlin to carry coolant cant take the temperature of the turbo!! :eusa_doh:

So the temp of the turbo has over heated the the plastic pipe which is about 3 inches from the turbo and the pressure blew a hole through the pipe.

Just thought i would let other turbo builders know.
i would suggest a stainless steel pipe to replace the plastic one.

I wrapped exhaust in heat proof material and so far have had no problems :eusa_pray: Brian

Wouldn't copper pipe be ideal for this? I don't think that stainless steel is completely immune to corrosion, and that copper pipe is consequently used in domestic heating systems.

I'd imagine it'd be easy to get hold of, and also the best material for additional cooling as the water travels to & from the rad (don't know if it'd make enough difference to be worthwhile, tho').

Pipes

Hi everyone,

The incident with the pipe happened while I was waiting for the ambulance. At first I thought the damage was far worse.

Anyway we have used a short length of copper and then bound the manifold and turbo with tape and the hoses with heat reflective tape, really a job for the ladies but we made a half decent job of it although not plain and pearl.

Copper is used domestically because it is cheaper, easier to bend and work compared to stainless steel.
