Having obtained a nice set of series 3 E type wire wheels for our car, I have now discovered we can't convert the Scimitar hubs to take the 52mm dia splined jag hubs and will have to use 42 mm dia splined hubs.
No probs as the jag wheels will be moved on and we can still use 15" wheels from MGC, TR6 and others.
This is just a note for others contemplating the same route
I see Gaz Davies has wires set up on the No1 G46, what wires are you using Gaz.

The Scimitar uses 'Big' chassis triumph hubs (TR6 I think) with a 4.5" pcd. That's pretty close to the E Types 4.75" pcd (5 stud) so I would have thought that a 52mm hub wouldn't be too big. MWS do undrilled hubs and unless the bolt pattern would interfere with the taper seat you should be able to get them to fit.
The 42mm or 52mm specification is the maximum bearing size that would fit in the hub. It doesn't really apply to bolt on splines, just to those that incorporate the bearing housing, but it's become the way of identifying the spline size. The actual diameter of the splines on a 42mm hub should be 62.5mm.
Glad some one knows what the 42 mm dia stands for I have always found it strange that the splined shaft was always more on the BGT I had.
When you look at the 52mm wheels they are nearly 80mm dia at the back given the PCD is 114.3mm (4.5") I can understand that doesn't leave much if any flat surface for the adaptor to bolt on.
However I am sure I spoke to someone earlier in the year who did offer to drill out blanks to make them fit can't remember who.
