Bit off topic but in my constant craving to produce Sammio's that are different or innovative ...I tend to look at alternative donors etc.
The Porsche Boxster has always struck me as a modern day 550 ....quite pretty cars and getting cheaper.
So , when Mike showed me this listing local to us and being listed by someone who visits our workshop quite regularly ( don't ask !! ) , It got the old creative juices flowing !!
Now before I ask the seller what he would take as a sensible 'buy it now' option , can anyone who might be a bit mechanically minded please tell me , if it looks ok ?
Not going to hold anyone responsible , just your views might be of interest ....
Hmm, is it the 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2 litre? Could make all the difference.
Funnily enough, one of the cars on my list for when I win the lottery was in Volksworld about a year ago, and it was a Boxster S chassis with a 1302S beetle body bonded on. Proper Q car imho.
2.5 stronger than 2.7 but seemed a bit weedy
3.2 stronger than 3.4 and seemed fine
Something to do with the cylinder wall coatings. Loads on various Porsche forums. Not much you can do about it when it does go and not much way of telling if it is going to go. I looked into buying a Boxster before becoming an employment statistic and nearly bought a 3.2.
Going to contact Porsche U.K. now and see if they can identify the engine , as it looks a little modified to me ...really hoping I might have stumbled over a rare piece of exotica here !
FUNNIEST THING ON THE LISTING IS THE FIFTY QUID ECONOMY DELIVERY CHARGE !
This guy has been turning up at the workshop fairly regular recently ....he's rented a workshop near us to do Boxster repairs , paid 6 months in advance , then found out the unit has no electric connected ! Add to that the total lack of any tools or knowledge and its a non-happening ! He has registered his business name though ...Porsche Boxster , Poole . Theres a legal issue right there for starters !
Mike has 'befriended ' him and showed me this listing ! Mike also tells me that he has completely run out of money , hence reluctantly selling the coffee table that was destined to go in his workshop/office area.
Another friend of ours went there to look at the unit and tells me he has tables set up ready for the cheese and wine open evening !!!
Did you see his 'other listings' include this item at a 'buy it now' of £800.00!
Ahh yes, but the delivery on the buy it now price is only £20, saving you thirty quid. Bargain.
On a serious note, it's not exactly a top quality job he's done on the 'coffee table' now is it. And that wouldn't inspire my confidence in his ability to repair poorly Porsches in Poole now would it. But you've got to admire his ambition now, haven't you...

It's your lucky day Gary. It just so happens that I have a gearbox and prop that will bolt straight on to the engine for a RWD conversion. As you can see I have the clutch too, but you will need to purchase a new trust bearing, I think a Jammy Dodger (not toffee) will fit.
..handy weight saving idea for the designer. Get Bernie Shylock to take a pound off the driver and the car will be good for another 1/100th sec at the Adria circuit...
